Think about your gifts really hard this holiday season. If your gift requires the recipient to spend a bunch of extra money to make it work/worth it, maybe it's not such a good gift. I almost spent a lot of money to get my brother a gift for Christmas, it was something I already have and something I know he would love. However, before I pulled the trigger I remembered something: I only love it because I have all the other pieces that make it work the way it's supposed to. He doesn't have those which leaves two options: 1. Buy the original gift plus all the parts and pieces to make it work right. 2. Don't buy the gift. Either choice is fine but the option of buying something that requires an investment by the recipient to make it function is not a good option.

I remember back then as children, visitors give us money or during festivities like Christmas and New Year , we get cash gifts. Momsie will promise to save it for us. But when we ask for our savings, you guessed right. We're all too familiar with the response😆 Saw this video and thought to share. This mom has an innovative idea that might just inspire you! In the video, she gives her children $5 each week as "income" but then charges them for "rent," "food," and "utilities." I think it's a fun, hands-on way to teach them about budgeting, saving, and the responsibilities that come with earning money. This simple exercise not only helps them understand the value of money but also prepares them for the financial realities of adulthood. Now, imagine the impact of starting these early. Is this something you love to try or save for later? Let me know what you think. #weekend| #friday| #tgif| #moneymanagement

Understanding Money Awareness When Gifting Your Children This Holiday Season; As the holiday season approaches, many parents find themselves in a whirlwind of gift shopping and festive planning. The excitement of gifting children can sometimes lead to an unintentional overspend, especially when parents reflect on their own childhood experiences with gifts. Maggie Baker, a financial psychologist, emphasizes the importance of having "money awareness" during this time. In this blog post, we’ll explore the concept of money awareness and why it’s essential to strike a balance when gifting your children. The Pendulum of Gifting; In our quest to provide more for our children than we received, many parents swing the pendulum of gifting too far. If you grew up with little, you might feel compelled to shower your children with gifts to compensate for what you felt you missed. Conversely, if you were fortunate to receive an abundance of gifts, you might feel the need to maintain that same level of generosity. This pendulum effect can lead to two extremes: Overindulgence: Showering children with too many gifts can foster a sense of entitlement, diminishing the value of money and thoughtful giving. Under-gifting: On the flip side, giving too little can lead to feelings of inadequacy or disappointment in children, which can impact their relationship with money in the future. When parents practice money awareness, they can impart important lessons about the value of money to their children.
