Why is padel a great sport for kids?🎾 Beyond the fun, padel helps young players develop essential life skills like hand-eye coordination, teamwork, communication, and sportsmanship. It fosters social interaction, encourages fair play, and builds confidence both on and off the court. Padel provides the perfect balance of physical activity and personal growth, making it an excellent choice for youth development. #padel #kidsinpadel #padelcommunity #kidsinsport

Youth in Padel : How Can We Encourage The Next Generation? 👨👩👧👦 To ensure Padel is here to stay, youth participation is key and there is no better time to lay the foundations than now, while the sport is still in it’s relative infancy. So how do we get juniors playing (and enjoying) Padel? 🥳 Make It Fun : Coaches/Parents should focus on ensuring Padel is as enjoyable as possible for younger children. Whether that is through mini-games or other adaptations, creating that postive association with Padel from a young age is essential. I recently witnessed Scott Pearmain taking a junior lesson and it was amazing to see how engaging/enjoyable he made it for the student. 👏 Encouragement : Like any sport, it is crucial that coaches/parents find the balance between encouraging children to keep them interested and not being “too pushy”. Therefore, patience is key and let them take to it at their own pace, with guidance. 🏆 Youth Competitions : At a certain age, some children may develop the urge to take part in Padel competitively. By doing so, it can help boost confidence, self-esteem and willingness to improve. Recently it has been great to see Chris Warren and the Rocks Lane Multi Sports & Padel Centre team take out the GB juniors to compete in Budapest. The Padel Directory are actively seeking ways to support the promotion/development of Youth Padel, as without it, the growth of Padel is limited ❌ What else is needed to grow the Junior game and how can it be done ⁉️ #padel #ukpadel #padeluk #juniorsport #gbsport #grassrootssport

🎾 Insightful post on the demise of Squash, by founder of Soul Padel, Mark Hewlett 🏆 📊 The numbers tell a striking story: since 2015, squash has lost over 40% of its participants. While COVID accelerated this decline, a fascinating transformation was already underway in the racquet sports landscape. Enter Padel - the fastest-growing sport you might not have heard of until 2022 in the UK. 📈 The growth has been extraordinary - from just 60 courts in 2020 to over 400 by 2023, marking a staggering 600% increase in just three years. 💭 It makes me somewhat misty eyed. As a young lad, I learned squash the hard way with my father - it was more intense than any HIIT class you could imagine. Without the tactical knowhow to control the T (the court's sweet spot), he flogged me from corner to corner, my heart rate spiking within minutes. Those games were brutal on both joints and lungs. It's unforgiving to the tactically naive, no matter how fit you are. Though I enjoyed (still do) the masochism of the burning lungs. 🔥 🌟 At Epic Life we're 'revolutionising' healthcare through prevention. By combining personalised medicine with strategic lifestyle changes, we help people maximise their healthspan – extending years of vibrant, disease-free living. 🎯 This is where Padel becomes transformative. It uniquely addresses four of the five fundamental pillars of optimal health: Movement, Sleep, Emotional Wellbeing, and Social Connection. While nutrition completes the picture, Padel's ability to impact multiple pillars simultaneously makes it a powerful tool for healthspan optimisation. 💪 Though both sports offer excellent exercise, Padel brings distinct advantages for long-term health: 🔸Lower injury risk due to less aggressive movement patterns 🔸More sustainable long-term play with gentler learning curve 🔸Enhanced cognitive benefits from strategic 4-player dynamics* 🔸Comparable cardiovascular benefits with reduced joint stress** 🌅 Padel has a bright future, it can be played inside or out, and it's accessibility is key - while squash demands intense physicality from day one, Padel welcomes players of all levels. The enclosed court and slower ball speed mean beginners can have fun while developing skills, yet the game remains challenging for advanced players. 🚀 Padel isn't just growing - it's redefining what accessible, social, and sustainable fitness looks like. 🎯 For the 'health-curious or conscious' looking to expand their fitness horizons while building meaningful connections, Padel offers a compelling proposition. ✨ The question isn't whether to try Padel - it's when. How to prevent this happening to #padel According to Statista, in 2015 425,000 people played squash in England. In 2023 that number was 250,000, down 7% on 2022. Squash is an amazing sport and I enjoy playing it. This is not a post about why padel is great and squash isn’t, it’s a cautionary tale about engaging across generations, stimulating participation and gender gaps. I am massively over-simplifying here as making a sport successful is a complex and multifaceted interaction of (amongst other things) societal and economic factors but… 🤷🏽♂️ Firstly, 84% of squash players in the UK are male. 👴🏼 Those male players are getting older with 50% now being over 35. ⏱️ According to Squash Player magazine, the average playing time for 247 matches analysed at the British Masters National Championships was just 19 minutes (ball in play). Drawing comparisons to other racquet sports isn’t often helpful but I do feel there are several lessons padel should learn in the UK from squash to cross the gender and generational divide, whilst continuing to stimulate physical activity with its unquie format, technology and gameplay strategies. People aged between 12-25 could be playing padel for the next 20, 30 or 40 years. This will only be achieved with a concerted joined up effort from all parties. With this, the future is bright for UK padel. Soul Padel LTA #padel #sport #growth #particpation #community #investment #kidssport #womeninsport

This is my other half, Will Skewes at Badminton Horse Trials, standing under the score board looking relaxed and happy. And with good reason. It's the main Saturday of the most prestigious event in the eventing calendar across the globe. And I think that realisation has just hit that he's successfully pulled off connectivity for the event. A mixture of relief and euphoria is sinking in. After 4 weeks of being on site - running cables across the acres of Badminton Estate (where The Gentleman was filmed), splicing fibres, installing hundreds of access points, configuring switches, managing a team of people, quality checking everything, testing, and a lot more that I don't even try to understand, he's finally reaping the rewards of his work. At this point everything is running to perfection: - Thousands of trader devices are connected to his network, allowing smooth payment processing. From Mars to Joules, Costa to The Pig & Whistle....they all rely on Wireless Solutions - The production team are online. From sending emails to communications, they're super hard at work, delivering the best Badminton Horse Trials to date. - Badminton TV is streaming live to its members who can watch this year's live event, plus all previous years' competitions, from the app - The judges are sending live scoring back to HQ for instant results - a 4-mile stretch of the cross country course included - The media and press teams are streaming tonnes of content back to their media outlets - The BBC stream is live, running seamlessly to millions over our network It's a high-pressure, mission-critical piece of the Badminton event. And he's done a brilliant job. I just wanted to give him a bit of recognition for the hard work he's put in, and the huge achievement. All carried out with modesty and respect for the event organisers and other contractors. So, if anyone needs a WiFi network, give Will a shout, and you'll be in the very safest of hands. Hugely proud! #eventwifi #eventprofsuk #wifi #badmintonhorsetrials #internet #connectivity #festivallife

Open the doors. In my opinion, to grow and sustain the game of padel in the UK we must open the doors and actively promote the game to children. It seems a lot of current philosophy is to build courts, attract adult players, play competitions and throw in a bit of social. Maintaining this path will eventually lead nowhere. Padel is the perfect sport to get children excited about: easier to play than tennis; rebounds off the glass; play with your mates; run out of the court to play shots (eventually!) plus all the other good stuff. All the things we as adults love about it, children will love it too. If we get children excited to play and then good at the game, this is how we succeed long term. Padel Coaches seem nervous about working with children. Yes, it takes different communication skills and adaptations to lessons but it's just Padel. Children's Padel coaching is effective when grabbing a basket of balls, a few lines and that's it. Yes, the court orientation and ball type may change for young children but any set up should be really simple for Coach and player. Don't over think it. Our junior programme does just that. Keeps it simple. Does yours? What are your thoughts on Padel for children? Essential at every venue? #padel #padeltennis #padelcoaching #padelkids #padelcourts

Should Padel Coaches in the UK play competitions? There are many people getting qualified in the UK as Padel Coaches or Instructors through various providers. In my experience of delivering Padel coaching qualifications, I would say under 10% of attendees are competing at an appropriate level (outside of their clubs social events or fixed 4s). As we grow Padel in the UK, my opinion is that those interested in becoming a Padel Coach must play appropriate regional / national competitions to improve their own Padel and therefore knowledge of the game. Coaches can learn something from every event they play. There is no such thing as perfect Padel and a lot of times winning ugly is required! Only by playing competitions can Coaches really get under the skin of the game and be able to provide the best insight to their players. Do you agree? #padel #padelcoach #padeladdict #padelUK #padelgrowth #padeltennis #padelteacher #padeltutor
