I’ve long been bullish on fusion as a key route to powering the world with abundant, affordable clean energy. Pacific Fusion, which is pursuing pulsed magnetic fusion, makes its public debut today. Proud to be an investor and back its work! https://lnkd.in/gJUHD9Zw More about Pacific Fusion from Steven Levy: https://lnkd.in/gtpCuGD5

Fusion is the future. Perhaps we should be using genai/ dl to help solve for the inhibitors. As a physicist we've seen fusion as the holy grail for decades. The goal of fusion research is to achieve "ignition", which is when enough fusion reactions occur to make the process self-sustaining. A commercial fusion system will likely operate below ignition conditions, but it must be close to those parameters to produce more power than it requires.

Great to see private funding continuing to flow to these hard tech projects rather than just shallow tech software exploitation that seems to have exhausted the general benefit space of outcomes.

Fusion energy could reshape economic landscapes just as profoundly as digital technology did.

If this works - this would be a massive game changer. And would address the issues that AI companies are facing with access to energy - see that some companies are going to set up their OWN atom plants.

Inhibitors... Nuclear fusion is difficult to achieve on Earth because it requires: Extreme temperatures Fusion requires temperatures of over 100 million degrees Celsius to fuse deuterium and tritium. Intense pressure The plasma must be held under intense pressure to maintain the fusion reaction. Confinement The plasma must be confined long enough to produce more energy than was required to start the reaction. Materials Materials must be able to withstand the extreme heat and neutron damage of fusion conditions for decades.
