As we all work hard to design and provide sustainable packaging solutions, it's really important that we also use claims that resonate with consumers and are aligned with local and federal guidelines. Packaging claims and labeling regulations can be tough to keep up with – different and sometimes conflicting state and federal guidelines are hard to stay on top of! Learn about packaging claims and labeling directly from industry experts by joining AMERIPEN's new three-part webinar series: https://lnkd.in/g9Gttbyv #packaging #labeling #reduce #reuse #recycle

The AGEC law (anti-waste for a circular economy) in France has noble intentions, but is very difficult for companies to apply. Especially for fresh fruit and vegetable producers who, for example, are now prohibited from using plastic bags for products weighing less than 1.5 kg. 🍎🚫🛍️ We see our customers in France struggle with the new regulations and waiting for clarification before making strategic decisions about their packaging. After the successful SPE Flexible Packaging Division FlexPackCon® 2023 conference in Montreal with 185 attendees, TAPPI's FlexPack PLACE conference is one of the major technical events for flexible packaging of 2024 in North America, from April 14 to 17. The program is available at: https://lnkd.in/dF3KmbEg A presentation by Alison Keane, President and CEO of the Flexible Packaging Association, is always very relevant. First of all, there's always some very important data to understand where our industry is heading. But in addition, Alison outlines all the association's actions concerning #EPR legislation, the implementation of solutions for the collection, sortation and reprocessing of flexible packaging. Her presentation will be followed by the session on Trends for Flexibles in the Current Times, featuring Scott Trenor of the Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR). Two other keynote speakers are on the program: Eric Klingenberg (Mars Advanced Research Institute, MARI) on "Approaches to Improve Recycling and the Role for Compostable", and William Jackson of Amcor Global Flexibles on "The Role of R&D in Driving Product Sustainability and Profitable Growth": "attendees will learn about the role and responsibility of R&D in helping to facilitate and navigate strategic choices that can support short-term and long-term progress toward both objectives. Practical examples of commonly recognized themes and challenges in the value chain will be discussed." I'm a firm believer in this and look forward to listening to this keynote. Two other key sessions: Mitzi Ng Clark (Keller and Heckman LLP) will provide an update on some of the proposed regulatory changes in the domestic and international legislations that can impact the delivery of several important initiatives including drive to remove #PFAS and introduction of EPR regulations. The final session will focus on incorporating #recycling protocols into the design phase, as should always be done in a #circularity approach. Reid Van Lehn, from University of Wisconsin-Madison, Ashish Datt, from Siegwerk, and Deepak Langhe, TD Polymers, will show examples of alternative approaches including changes to selection of materials, process of extrusion and/or method of recycling to enable recycling of different materials. We look forward to seeing you at this event! #flexiblepackaging

Paper packaging for chocolate bars launched Koehler Paper has collaborated closely with Leipzig-based chocolate manufacturer nucao to exclusively package their chocolate bars in the innovative Koehler NexPlus Advanced flexible packaging paper, offering excellent barrier properties and recyclability. This partnership has expedited the market launch of paper-packaged nucao bars, including popular flavours like Crisp & Crunch and Salted Caramel, marking a milestone in sustainable packaging within the German market. Developed in partnership with the Koehler Innovation & Technology team, this change to packaging paper, particularly suitable for vertical and horizontal packaging machines, enables production speeds of up to 600 bars per minute. Furthermore, it is claimed that Koehler Paper’s NexFlex product range embodies a commitment to sustainability, aiming to replace plastic with recyclable barrier paper across various packaging applications, recognised with the “Made for Recycling” seal by Interseroh+. This collaborative is exemplified by nucao’s mission to positively impact the planet through innovative paper packaging. Via ThePackHub Innovation Zone #packaging #packaginginnovation #sustainability

Billerud introduces ConFlex CoatBase Met, a high-performing base paper specially designed for vacuum metallization. In the food industry a large portion of existing packaging materials are expected to be phased out in favor more sustainable options. In Italy, metallized paper is the preferred choice for cold-cut packaging due to its visual appeal and recyclability in regular recycling streams. "Brand owners and producers in the food industry are increasingly demanding sustainable solutions and recyclable products. Now that we have developed a product for cold-cut packaging, we see great opportunities for other types of packaging within food and beverages. It is truly an industry with enormous potential,” says Andrea Carducci, Sales and Segment Manager at Billerud. New technologies for sustainable food and beverage packaging are evolving rapidly. At Billerud, we are dedicated to driving this progress, and the release of ConFlex CoatBase Met is one example #Sustainableproducts #Kraftpaper #Packagingmaterials
