Let's boot off 2025 with a quick run-down of the race that our F1 team took part in right before the end of last term. We were lucky enough to have Jacob in the room filming some clips for his media project. He's got some great action from the race, but I've attached my favourite clip here. While setting up for some pre-race shots, he quietly put his camera on to capture some lovely moments in the room: James sharing a joke with Mac and Cody, keeping them chilled out and smiling. Zach discussing the race with Ihor and Carrie, the different tactics in the two tracks. When I talk about Q-Esports, I talk about the results, because I can't do these bits justice. Everyone's part of #TeamQE and we all fight for each other. The atmosphere on match day is electric. Every captain is constantly in my ear about how the other teams have done, what we can do to support them, ways to improve. They fight tooth and nail for their own teams, of course they do, but that's only the bit everyone sees. The work behind the scenes, the constant support, bringing new players through, making sure everyone feels part of things, that's the whole story. That's why I love that Esports has become such an integral part of the tour for prospective families; to walk in randomly to the room is to have a chance to experience one of the millions of small moments which make QE, just two years in, one of the best places in the country to study and play Esports. Incidentally, watch Cody's face on the 12 second mark as he looks back to the screen: joke's over, all business. He doesn't smile again until the races were done. I've not attached that one, but look at the one that Jacob took behind Cody's shoulder during the race: the atmosphere is eerie. Deathly quiet, allowing for 100% focus. The team focus on communicating only the necessities to one another, and they do so brilliantly. There's actually very little to say about the races: Cody finished 3rd, extremely comfortably, in both. 4 races this season, 3 podium finishes. When I said that to him after the race, he grimaced and replied 'if only I hadn't mucked up that corner in Italy then I'd be 100% podium finishes instead of just 75%.' Mr Perfectionist. Mac was solid the whole way through his race. His superb defending in 4th made life comfortable for Cody in 3rd, a superb team effort. Special mention to Zach: He qualified in 8th, and that was the best he'd ever qualified for us. That alone would have been enough for an accolade, but then he went and raced out of his skin. Up to 6th, up to 5th... And up to 4th. Cody visibly relaxed when he saw that Zach had settled in behind him. Every single race so far this season we've scored points; we managed that in just 20% of the races last year. 3 podium finishes in 4 races; up from 0 in the last season. Our world class equipment, the training, and a sense of racing for #TeamQE has led to us being instantly in the top 25% of teams in the country. And we're just getting started.
