This publication equips academics and researchers with the tools to integrate green skills into education and research—essential for advancing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. 🚀 Key focus: ⚖️ The just transition: Addressing environmental, social, and economic challenges while fostering inclusive growth. 🌏 Planetary boundaries: Ensuring resilience for our shared future. 🔄 Learner-centred approaches: Practical, hands-on learning to engage students. 🎓 Southern-led initiatives: Empowering communities through knowledge exchange. This work highlights the role of higher education in turning political commitments into action, particularly in sustainable food systems and renewable energy. 🌍 Coming Soon: QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025! 🌍 On November 18, 2024, QS will release the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025, celebrating universities for their environmental, social, and governance efforts. The release will coincide with COP29, amplifying the global conversation on sustainability in higher education. Last year, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) and Baku State University (BSU) proudly represented Azerbaijan, showcasing their commitment to sustainable development among nearly 1,400 global institutions. This month I had the privilege of presenting our paper at the Higher Education Teaching and Learning conference (#HELT) held in #SouthAfrica. https://lnkd.in/d63VbiPi My first time in this beautiful and wonderful country!   The paper (publishing soon) 'The Sustainable University: Creating societal impact, the next step!' makes the case for Higher Education institutions (HEI) to play a greater role in meeting the challenges of Sustainability. It outlines specific strategies and initiatives that develop a culture of #Sustainability . This culture is evident once sustainability is embedded within the HEI's DNA and clearly visible in all its functions. We propose a transdisciplinary approach to find innovative sustainable solutions that uses entrepreneurship as the vehicle to transfer these solutions to market, enabling universities to create real societal impact. Tel Aviv University's MA in Sustainable Development, introduced in 2020, is designed for pioneering leaders of the next generation. This program equips students with the skills and knowledge to address the pressing challenge of sustainable development—providing the global population with sustainable energy, water, and food. This will improve health, livelihoods, and well-being, particularly for low-income communities in developing countries and contribute to environmental protection. As part of this program, students are actively involved in developing and field-testing practical solutions to pressing development and environmental challenges, leveraging Israel's renowned technological innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Yesterday I met with Gerben Messelink at the Netherlands Consulate General in Sao Paulo. Gerben is Embassy Science Fellow this year and will work together with Innovatie Attaché Netwerk Brazilië / Netherlands Innovation Attaché Network Brazil Ernst-Jan Bakker and Paul Van de Logt on investigating and mapping the opportunities for #scientific collaboration in on the cross-roads between #sustainable #agriculture and #biodiversity. #Brazil is the country with the biggest biodiversity in the world, but due to #deforestation mainly due to agricultural expansion, this is under pressure, not only in the #Amazone region but also the so-called #cerrado, the savanne-type biome which extends south and south-east of the Amazone rainforest. For Ministerie van Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit biodiversity is an important policy priority and we hope that Gerben's work will help us in setting a bilateral science agenda between the Netherlands and Brazil for the coming years.
