It was great to hear from passionate young researchers about their research at the 2nd South Asian Conference 2024 and share my suggestions with them. I am feeling tempted to share those here with many other young researchers who are connected with me. The Power of Knowledge and Real-World Impact in Your Research In the fast-paced world of research, it’s tempting to dive straight into projects without thoroughly exploring the landscape. But remember, impactful research isn’t just about innovation - it’s about understanding and building on existing knowledge to address meaningful gaps and create real-world change. Why Knowledge Impact Matters: A thorough literature review uncovers what’s already been done, highlights areas that still need exploration, and ensures your work is unique and valuable. By identifying knowledge gaps, you make sure your research fills a needed void and contributes to the larger body of knowledge in your field. If other researchers feel that they are not hearing anything new, you need to look at the aspect of knowledge impact of your research. Real-World Impact: Research that improves lives, informs policy, or solves pressing problems stands out. When you define how your work can address real-world challenges, you make it more than a paper - it becomes a solution. Think about how your findings can benefit society, influence practice, or drive innovation. This impact is often what transforms good research into groundbreaking work. JOURNAL IMPACT FACTOR OR RESEARCH INTEGRITY: WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT? The results of an interesting survey 📊 A recent survey by the Queensland University of Technology showed unexpected results: scientists around the world prefer to publish in journals with a high impact factor, even if it requires significant compromises in their work. ⁉️  What about the survey? A questionnaire survey of over 600 researchers from 63 countries showed that impact factor is a crucial criterion when choosing a journal for publication. Next in importance are usefulness of reviews and speed of response. ⁉️  How does this work? Many researchers agree to changes suggested by reviewers — even if they include deleting data or misrepresenting facts. All in the name of publishing an article in a prestigious scientific journal. Articles are often asked to ‘cut results’ for several reasons. It may be to ‘make the information more digestible’, to save space, or even to contradict previous findings. ❗️ As a result, the quality of research can be affected by the desire to have a publication in the most prestigious journal. ♻️ Our company gives priority to the quality and completeness of research, after all, these are the years of work of our clients! How to Identify 7 Different Research Gap Types? 𝐄𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Results from studies may be valid but contradict each other. • Findings may challenge conventional wisdom or produce provocative exceptions. 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Desired research findings or theories are absent in the field. • Unexpected results appear in previous studies. 𝐏𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥-𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Professional practices deviate from or contradict research findings. • Actions in practice may not align with what research recommends. 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐩: •bExisting research methods may limit insights or produce biased results. • Suggests the need for improved or alternative methodologies. 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Findings or propositions have not been empirically tested or validated. • Highlights issues that remain unexamined in prior research. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Related studies may lack a theoretical framework. • Multiple theories may conflict in explaining a phenomenon. 𝐏𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐩: • Certain groups, such as specific ethnicities, genders, or ages, are under-researched. • Highlights the need for studying underserved or understudied populations.
