Difference between PhD and Doctorate The terms “PhD” and “doctorate” are often used interchangeably, but there are some differences: 1. Doctorate: This is a broad term that refers to the highest level of academic degree in any field. It encompasses various types of doctoral degrees, not just the PhD. Examples include Doctor of Education (EdD), Doctor of Business Administration (DBA), Doctor of Medicine (MD), and more. Essentially, a doctorate is a general category of advanced academic degrees. 2. PhD (Doctor of Philosophy): This is a specific type of doctorate and is one of the most common doctoral degrees. A PhD focuses on original research, the creation of new knowledge, and academic scholarship. It is awarded in many fields, from the sciences to the humanities. The emphasis is often on conducting independent, extensive research and contributing to the existing body of knowledge through a dissertation. In summary, all PhDs are doctorates, but not all doctorates are PhDs. The term “doctorate” covers a range of advanced degrees, while “PhD” refers specifically to a Doctor of Philosophy degree. Copied

PhD students at the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School have different research interests and fields of expertise. 🧑🏫 To integrate its community, the School organizes seminars that aim to develop the ability to present and discuss a research project in English, its methodology and results, also among non-specialists. Interdisciplinary Integrative Seminar serves to explore methodologies relevant for interdisciplinary projects across a variety of disciplines and scientific fields. It shapes and develops competence in both the theory and methodology of interdisciplinary and interfield research, as well as the broader issues of meta-knowledge and meta-science. 📚 During the seminar debate, which is also attended by the supervisors 🎓 of the doctoral students presenting their projects, issues of scientific skills, comparison of research discourses, juxtaposition of diversity and analogy of apparatuses are of particular importance, within related and dissimilar disciplines and fields. 👉 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dtd2b-kv

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), has announced that UGC NET scores can now be used for PhD admissions starting from the 2024-25 session. This decision eliminates the need for separate entrance exams for PhD admissions and allows NET scores to be valid for a year for admission to PhD programs. Candidates in Categories 2 and 3 can benefit from this new policy. The UGC NET June 2024 application process is expected to commence soon, as per Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. This change marks a significant shift in the PhD admission process, streamlining it and potentially increasing accessibility for aspiring researchers.

When the comic is uncomfortably close to reality. If you are a prospective PhD student, make sure you know... 1. What is the source of funding? 2. Is it guaranteed for the duration of your program? 3. Is it sufficient to make ends meet? 4. Are additional resources available to pay for travel to conferences? 5. Are additional resources available to support your dissertation research? As much as the prestige of the institution or the advisor, make sure these bottom line questions are answered - so you can make an informed decision about where to earn your PhD. #academiccareers #phdcomics

"Utilizing a quasi-longitudinal dataset, our study investigates the relationship between various indicators of student plans, as used in cross-sectional studies, and students’ eventual completion or withdrawal from doctoral programs. Our analysis reveals a significant disconnect between student intentions and their actual outcomes, which indicates that students’ plans may not always be a reliable predictor of graduation results.Utilizing a quasi-longitudinal dataset, our study investigates the relationship between various indicators of student plans, as used in cross-sectional studies, and students’ eventual completion or withdrawal from doctoral programs.
