We often update you about Westfalia Fruit, a leading global avocado company. Rather than us talking about them as Avojoy’s strategic partner, we thought it would be far more valuable for you to hear directly from people within the organization. And let them share their perspectives from the inside.
Raúl Jesús Benítez Osorio kicks off this series, sharing insights on topics including:
🥑 The ripening process once the avocados arrive at Westfalia Fruit.
🥑 The three different ripening stages.
🥑 When an avocado has reached perfect ripeness.

Crafting Moments Through Coffee ☕️ 🔥
We’re taking a new yet familiar path at Light My Fire with something that’s a bit different from what we usually do: our very first food product – Swedish KOKKAFFE.
Why coffee? Why now?
For us, it’s always been about more than just making outdoor gear. It’s about the experiences we create and the memories we hold from our time in nature. Swedish KOKKAFFE is our way of bringing a cherished Nordic tradition to outdoor adventures.
It’s not just about sipping coffee; it’s about pausing, enjoying the moment, and connecting with the world around us. Our coffee comes from a co-op in Honduras that promotes regenerative agriculture, which aligns perfectly with our ethos of taking responsibility for the planet.
It’s lively, organic, and has this incredible taste profile of caramel, milk chocolate and citrus. Our roaster (and neighbor) Dan Stenqvist at Solde Roastery was somehow able to draw out the terroir of this mountainous landscape: the soil, climate and sunlight.
When Calill Odqvist Jarusch, our CEO, talked about this project, it was clear it wasn’t just a business move: "It’s our way of inviting people to slow down and to savor moments around the fire,” she said.
So, this is us, inviting you to a new-again tradition that celebrates slowing down: like listening to albums at the end of a long day or using film in a camera and waiting for it to get developed. Whether you’re an avid coffee lover or just someone who appreciates the simple joy of savoring an experience, we hope you get to try Swedish KOKKAFFE.

What's cooking in our kitchen? Aside from the obvious, we're also routinely thinking of ways to turn ‘waste’ into wonder, one recipe at a time!
Since Day 0 at Geist Brewing Co., we’ve been designing systems to incorporate long-term sustainability and innovation practices in our efforts to craft fresh, high-quality beer. Over the last few years, we’ve been experimenting with ways in which we can carry this commitment even to our kitchens. In all honesty, we've come to terms with this being a continuous learning process with no instant solutions or quick fixes.
Step 1 in this process was to begin building a relevant mindset amongst all team members - from leadership, front-of-the house, brand marketing and housekeeping to those behind the bar in the kitchen. When it comes to finding innovative ways to repurpose kitchen waste, there are some things we want to steer clear of:
👎 complex jargon & convoluted concepts that can alienate or exclude those on the team who may bring truly valuable inputs - too often, conversations around sustainability and food waste are limited to boardrooms
👎 the thinking that only changes at a certain scale are impactful
👎 tying these conversations to lofty goals and action items that look good on paper or slides but in reality can sometimes bring in a mentality of ‘top-down forced change’ for our team members
To kick-start our efforts, we reached out to our friend Elizabeth Yorke - a chef turned food researcher, writer and an advocate for sustainable food systems. She is the co-founder of Edible Issues, a collective that is designing experiences and fostering thought and conversation on the Indian Food System, and the founder of Saving Grains, an upcycling food initiative inspired by the historically circular relationship between brewers and bakers.
Stay tuned for our next post on what steps our team members at Geist Brewing Co. Hennur took to begin an inclusive discussion around food waste, sustainability and accountability 🌍✨

Sorry, Gary Vaynerchuk, for sneaking myself into the conversation in your reel, it was just too tempting! 😉
Having grown our own vegetables 🥕 and bought our meat 🥩 directly from farmers for years, the principle of Clean Eating has long been close to my heart, although I wasn't familiar with the term in English.
At its core, Clean Eating means consuming unprocessed foods 🌾, "from the field to the plate." So, watching Gary Vee's reel made it no surprise that the term "Clean Leather" came to mind. It aptly describes, in connection with the concept of Clean Eating, what Olivenleder® is all about. Essentially, we're extending the "from the field to the plate" system by one more step "from the field to the skin."
For example, a byproduct of Clean Eating: cowhide – an entirely organic product 🐄 – is transformed into Olivenleder with the help of another organic product, the residues from olive harvesting 🫒. I deliberately use the term organic here, not natural. The term "natural" is too superficial, as it essentially describes everything that surrounds us: the mineral (stones, metals, sand, ...) and the organic (grown through biological processes). The residues from olive harvesting are indeed organic. And thus, a full part of the cycle in nature 🌍.
Because Olivenleder does not interrupt this cycle, requiring nothing inorganic in its tanning process, it is so safe to use. It's clean. A customer, Sevilla Smith, even calls our leather Barefootleather, because she uses it to make her beautiful shoes 👞 – which are predominantly worn barefoot.
For those who want to learn more about how leather becomes Clean Leather: I'm always happy to talk about "my" Olivenleder. Just send a message, I'd love to come by for a Clean Eating (sorry Gary, not wine but) pure olive leaf extract #tanningagenttasting. 😋
PS: Gary Vaynerchuk, I'm convinced that once you take a look at our concept around Olivenleder, you'll instruct us to make your next pair of shoes from it – and then we are looking forward to your feedback #theproofisinthepudding.
