I have noticed a trend not in all companies but in some! Hopefully, the NIT Placement Cell and teachers will also observe this. There is a noticeable trend in the internships at Microsoft, which should be highlighted. These roles may be in support or testing. Candidates should be hired based on their skills & knowledge rather than solely to satisfy management’s desire for gender equality. What is your opinion about it? 🚨 Let’s talk about something important for a moment. 🚨 I have noticed something recently, and perhaps you have too. Men are often overlooked in certain fields, while women seem to be given more opportunities. I fully support women’s rights and empowerment. They are crucial! However, shouldn’t opportunities be based on merit? It should be about who is the most qualified for the job, regardless of gender. Here is my experience: I had a strong interview, answered everything correctly, and felt confident. Yet, I was told I could not join until I finished my BS degree. At the same time, I have seen female candidates get internships in the same software house while they are also still pursuing their BS. Why the double standard? In trying to correct one imbalance, it feels like we might be creating another. And that does not seem like true equality. What are your thoughts? Entering college can be an exciting and scary time. Reflecting on our journey into college, here is some advice we wish we had: 💗Build a Strong Foundation: Focus on a field of study relevant to your field of interest. This could mean pursuing a degree at a 4-year college or gaining certifications/ associates that are valued in the industry. 💗Seek Mentorship: Find mentors who are established professionals in your field of interest. They can provide valuable guidance, share their experiences, and offer insights into navigating the challenges and opportunities specific to the industry. 💗Network Actively: Networking is crucial in any field. Apply for internships and attend workshops to connect with professionals and peers in the field. Joining relevant college organizations can also expand your network and provide access to resources and job opportunities. 💗Advocate for Yourself and Others: In male-dominated fields, especially, advocate for gender equality and support other women. Be courageous in seeking leadership roles and opportunities to make a positive impact within your community. 💗Believe in Yourself: Don't underestimate your abilities or shy away from challenges. Have confidence in your skills and knowledge, and be willing to step outside your comfort zone to grow professionally. Yesterday, I had the great pleasure of returning back to #StanstedAirportCollege, where I presented the recent and inaugural initiative launched by the #theaircharterassociation — the first of its kind: The ACA '75' Internship Programme. ✈ Marking the #75thanniversary of the association, as #Chair of the #NGG, it was a privilege to showcase this rare opportunity, which enables students financially and educationally and prepares them socially for the next stage of their journey. By providing them with the necessary skills and experience, the ACA '75' Internship Programme paves the way for the #nextgeneration and a purposeful entry into #businessaviation. This initiative intrinsically supports #UNSDG4; Quality Education, #UNSDG5; Gender Equality, #UNSDG8; Decent Work and Economic Growth and #UNSDG10; Reduced Inequalities. A core theme that arose from my engagement with the #NextGen was, as anticipated, #sustainability. As an industry, we are continuously striving to achieve higher sustainability; navigating the nuances and embedding more purposeful decisions leading to more environmentally and socially ethical actions. [ Reflecting on the Kordsa Unistars Ideathon Program Experience ] Three exhilarating days have just flown by. This was my first time participating in an ideathon or hackathon focused specifically on Inclusive Language. The experience was truly enlightening as I engaged in discussions about creating a more inclusive workplace environment, starting with the use of inclusive language. This program prompted me to reflect on my own experiences with discrimination in previous jobs. As a female intern, I was particularly vulnerable to discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Talking with my team members, I discovered that they, too, had faced discrimination during their internships. It became clear to me that this isn't just my issue—it's a challenge we all face. While we didn't achieve a top spot in the program, the insights and connections gained were invaluable, and I am optimistic about more opportunities to advocate for gender equality and justice in professional settings. As a woman, it is crucial for me to raise awareness about Inclusive Language and its importance to everyone. Beyond fighting for equal pay, we must also advocate for other essential rights in the workplace, such as the ability to express our opinions freely, support minority colleagues, and ensure that everyone feels included and respected.
