Saudi Arabia has begun construction on a massive cube-shaped attraction called the Mukaab in Riyadh. Set to be the world’s largest structure, the Mukaab will anchor the New Murabba development project, a major addition to Riyadh’s downtown, which was launched last year. This enormous building will measure 400 meters on each side—large enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings within its walls. According to Michael Dyke, CEO of New Murabba, the Mukaab is designed to be an iconic symbol for Riyadh, featuring the world’s first fully enclosed skyscraper and an immersive dome displaying holographic images. Inspired by traditional Najd architecture, its design consists of overlapping triangular forms. The project has drawn criticism for its resemblance to the Kaaba in Mecca, with some viewing it as potentially controversial. Set to complete its first phase by 2030, New Murabba will eventually house 400,000 people and serve as part of Saudi Arabia’s ambitious Vision 2030 urban development goals. #mukaab #saudiarabia #trendignow #PakistaniJournal

Saudi Arabia is building another architectural marvel, the Mukaab, a massive cube-shaped skyscraper in Riyadh. The Mukaab will stand 400 meters (1,312 feet) tall, wide, and long, making it large enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings inside, according to the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Bloomberg also reports it will be the world’s largest building. The Mukaab will be the centerpiece of the New Murabba district, with a design inspired by traditional Islamic architecture and 2 million square meters of interior space. Inside, a large twisting tower will rise, and holographic technology will create underwater and otherworldly scenes. Excavation is almost complete, with 10 million cubic meters [roughly 350 million cubic ft] of earth already moved using 250 excavators and 400 pieces of equipment. Completion is expected by 2030. #saudiarabia #TheMukaab #NewMurabba #Bloomberg #Riyadh #skyscraper #building #architecture #construction

1 million people, in a single building shaped like a giant pyramid the size of a mountain: monstrous or amazing? In 2008, plans were shown for a mega-pyramid - called the Ziggurat - with the intention of starting construction in 2021 and completing it by 2028. As of today, construction hasn't started yet but... who knows! Its design was inspired by the pyramids of the Egyptians and Mayans, however, enlarged to a truly gigantic scale. The Ziggurat Pyramid will be taller than the Burj Khalifa and the Downtown Circle, and is expected to reach a whopping 1,500 meters in height. It is said to be designed to measure a whopping 2.3 square kilometers and hold a capacity of up to one million people! Not only that, but the facility is designed to be zero carbon, totally self-sufficient and powered entirely by solar panels, wind and natural sources. The pyramid is also designed to have its own public transportation system that will run not only horizontally across the building but also up and down, eliminating the need for cars. The enormous building would have 300 floors, with residential, commercial and recreational spaces. The megaproject was conceived by Timelinks, a Dubai-based group of urban planners, scientists and architectural designers. What do you think? Monstrous or exciting? One thing is for sure, it would be, by far, the most impressive piece of engineering ever! #urbanism #city #world #engineering For more: 📌 Follow #ImpressiveEngineering 📌 Click on the 🔔

The Skyscraper Race Saudi Arabia is planning to build a two-kilometer-high skyscraper on a site north of the capital city of Riyadh. If completed, it will be the world’s highest building. According to architecture and design magazine Dezeen, UK studio Foster + Partners is the primary architecture firm on the proposal. As it stands, the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building worldwide at 828 meters (2,717ft). Based in Dubai, the UAE, the 163-stored building was completed in 2010. In second place comes the Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 679 m (2,227 ft), followed by the Shanghai Tower in Shanghai, China at 632 m (2,073 ft). When it comes to the world’s highest buildings, data from the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat shows that Asia and the Middle East are winning the race to the skies. Out of this roundup, only one skyscraper, the One World Trade Center in New York City, is located outside of these two regions. China is particularly well represented, as it is home to five of the top 10 tallest buildings. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat database, the Burj Khalifa would be trumped by the proposed Burj Mubarak Al Kabir, which is planned to be built in Kuwait City, with a height of 1,001 m (3,284 ft) and 234 floors. The completion date is not published yet. #skycraper #building #tallestbuilding #worldwide #race source : statista
