Uzbekistan has significant potential for new Internet Service Providers (ISPs) with room to grow. RIPEstat data shows that only 84 ASNs are routed in the country, compared to Spain with 959, Ukraine with 1685, and Russia with 5034. The challenge lies in high costs due to the requirement for all external traffic to be processed through SORM, leading to a unique cost structure heavily influenced by upstream traffic. Moreover, the country has only three exchange points in Tashkent, while Spain, Ukraine, and Russia have far more. Establishing more IXPs in regional centers could help reduce costs and improve connectivity. Exciting developments are on the horizon as from January 1, 2025, telecom operators in Uzbekistan will connect directly to the international Internet, following a presidential decree aimed at market reforms. This long-awaited reform, discussed since 2019, holds promise for the future of the country's telecommunications sector. Let's stay tuned to see how these changes will unfold. #Uzbekistan #Telecommunications #ISPs

Internet users in Pakistan are facing slow browsing speeds following a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable, a critical international undersea cable. The issue, which has been impacting the country's internet services, has disrupted up to 1,000 gigabytes per second of data traffic. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has confirmed that 830 gigabytes per second of affected traffic has already been rerouted through alternative routes. Efforts are still ongoing to shift the remaining traffic to minimize the disruption. IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja addressed the issue on Saturday, acknowledging the ongoing efforts to restore normal internet speeds. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had earlier issued a statement confirming the fault near Qatar, one of the seven cables facilitating international internet traffic to Pakistan. This disruption is expected to impact the browsing experience of internet and broadband users nationwide. #PTA #internet #hubbubdigital
