E-waste - wicked problem In 2019, 7.3kg of electronic waste was created by person globally (you). This means 53.6 million metric tons of ewaste. Every year. 82.6% of e-waste flows are not documented. Majority of this consists of simply dumping the waste into developing countries. Only 17.4% is recycled properly. In other words huge amounts of valuable raw materials and functional components are simply thrown away for nothing. Some of these are toxic chemicals. This wicked problem can be seen from several viewpoints: 1. Behavioral change. How individuals and communities can change their behaviours and requirements in purchasing products? Can you buy less, buy recycled or require sustainability? 2. New business innovations. What new or disrupting digital, data, robot and AI powered business models could turn ewaste flows to revenues and platforms, as local or global business? 3. Recycling technology innovations. Can we create new technologies for handling ewaste better? 4. Manufacturing, product design and materials. Can we design electronic products and materials to be better recyclable and reusable? 5. Repurpose. What products and components can be repurposed before they become ewaste? 6. Repair. Enable and empower repairing always when possible. Electronic cars establish a whole new space of opportunities. Beyond batteries, they are full of potential future ewaste. Can we design automated systems that turn entire ecars back into raw materials? Note: * WEEE, European Community's Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive * GeSI, Global e-Sustinability Initiative *EPR, extended producer responsibility * Repair Culture #ewaste #innovation #business #opportunity Innovaatioyhtiö Ideascout Stena Recycling AB

Automotive recycling is a critical process in the lifecycle of vehicles, focusing on the recovery and reuse of materials from end-of-life cars. As vehicles reach the end of their operational life, they are dismantled, and various components and materials, such as metals, plastics, and glass, are extracted and processed. This recycling process not only helps in reducing waste and conserving natural resources but also supports environmental sustainability by minimizing the need for new raw materials. With advancements in technology and recycling methods, the automotive industry continues to enhance its recycling practices, contributing to a more sustainable and circular economy. #automotiverecycling #sustainability #circularEconomy #recycle #RACE #raceconferences
