I have seen my team taking naps. I have noticed my team taking an extra 10-15 mins after Lunch break. I have observed my colleagues logging off early. I have witnessed team talking on phone, watching movies, gossiping and yawning. None of this matters to me at all because they all are humans too. One does not need to overreact and expect your team to work for the next 9 hours straight. Giving 100% does not mean sitting and working all the time. I'm a co-founder of a marketing agency that makes 6 figures USD. And last month we broke our one and only rule. You see starting an agency in the midst of a global pandemic makes you understand how easy it is to run a remote team. - you can hire from all over the world - you save a TONNE on rent - all the work gets done the same But, running a remote team also has its cons. - it becomes hard to separate personal & professional life - always being available led to overworking and burnout - not being fully committed Without a physical office, our team: - wasn't as cohesive, - didn't communicate much, and - the creative collaboration suffered. This was a wake-up call for us. I flew to Bangalore, and together with Unnati, we set up a physical workspace where collaboration could thrive, ideas could flow freely, and we could build bonds beyond just screens. This model is still in its nascent stage. Let’s hope for the best.
