'Be a cat, rather than a dog' quoted Prof. Gunther Dueck at our 'Excellence in Launches & Lessons Learned – Interface D&D Offsite' from Boehringer Ingelheim The past 3 days had the privilege of organizing and participating in a transformative 3-day workshop close to my old home town in Bad Dürkheim. The event brought together a diverse group of late-stage drug and device leads from Operations and the Innovation Unit at Boehringer Ingelheim. The workshop was a melting pot of ideas and experiences, providing a platform for us to connect, reflect, and learn from each other, where delving into a range of topics, to efficiently tackle all of our upcoming launches! It was a testament to the power of collaboration and the value of shared knowledge as we grew together as one Drug and Device Lead Unit, regardless of division, technology or modality! The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the keynote speech by Gunter Dueck 'Wild Duck', a renowned author of over 20 books and former CTO of IBM Germany. Prof. Dueck's insights into innovation and the cultural barriers that often hinder it were enlightening. His perspective challenged us to think differently about our approach to innovation and how we navigate the complexities of our industry. One of the key takeaways from Prof. Dueck's speech that resonated with me was the analogy of being a cat versus a dog. He encouraged us to 'be a cat and strive for disruption, rather than being a dog staying with good'old habbits. This metaphor served as a powerful reminder of the importance of challenging the status quo and embracing change in our pursuit of innovation! Despite being very tired, organizing this workshop was a rewarding experience for me, and having the opportunity to invite one of my favorite authors to our sessions was next to expanding my network one of my personal highlights. I am grateful for these opportunities and look forward to applying the lessons learned in our future endeavors! #Innovation #Leadership #BoehringerIngelheim #DrugDevelopment #DeviceDevelopment #Workshop #Keynote #ProfGuntherDueck #Disruption #Culture #ExcellenceInLaunches

After more than two incredible years at PortmanDentex, it’s time for me to set out on a new path. The journey has been nothing short of transformative, and as I reflect on this chapter, I’m filled with gratitude and pride for what we’ve accomplished together. One of the most defining moments of my time here was navigating the largest merger in private dentistry between Portman and Dentex. This landmark integration brought together two exceptional organisations, creating a unified group with over 370 practices. It was a period of significant change, requiring strategic focus and collaboration to align cultures, systems, and goals while ensuring high standards of patient care. As CCO, I’ve had the privilege of leading numerous business-critical teams, from expanding the estate to ensuring a safe, compliant environment, and working alongside some of the most talented and dedicated individuals I’ve ever met. Together, we’ve navigated complex challenges, celebrated successes, and driven meaningful change. It’s the relationships I’ve built – founded on trust, collaboration, and shared goals – and the lessons we’ve learned as a team that will stay with me as I move forward. Beyond PortmanDentex, my advisory work with VidiVet and volunteering with Yorkshire 4x4 Response reminded me of the power of community, continuous learning, and pushing boundaries, both personal and professional. As I look ahead to 2025, I’m excited to explore new opportunities where I can drive strategic, tech-enabled innovation, mentor emerging leaders, and navigate uncharted terrain. The intersection of technology and leadership offers enormous potential to transform industries and deliver meaningful change, and I’m eager to be part of that journey. The most rewarding paths are those that challenge and reshape us, and I can’t wait to see what’s around the next corner. To my colleagues, mentors, and friends: thank you for your trust, collaboration, and shared vision. Let’s stay connected – the path forward is always brighter when walked together. Here’s to new horizons and the lessons we carry with us!

Last Wednesday, we held our first-ever Uhlmann Group Executive Committee meeting. Especially for a company with group structures like the Uhlmann Group it is vital to bring all Managing Directors of the different companies (Uhlmann Pac-Systeme, KOCH Pac-Systeme GmbH, Cremer Speciaalmachines B.V., Axito Poland (Uhlmann Group) & Wonder Packaging) together to align the overall strategy as well as the common goals and strengthen the organizational structures in such a comprehensive meeting. As we had hoped, the day provided the opportunity for productive discussions and informative talks. We covered a wide range of topics, including production strategies, technologies like Generative AI or Information Security, megatrends, and much more. It was particularly important that we had the chance to exchange ideas on these current issues and make target-oriented decisions together based on a common level of knowledge. I would like to thank all of my executive colleagues for participating, bringing in their ideas and learning from each other. It is crucial to discuss such relevant topics in person from time to time. I am already looking forward to our next Executive Committee. Led by partners Dr. Nils Krause, LL.M. (Durham) and Jose Maria Gil-Robles, as well as senior associate Rune Jelte Weltz LL.M. (University of Cape Town) and legal director Héctor Gómez Ferrero, we advised Buenavista Equity Partners (formerly GED Capital), a private equity firm, on its acquisition of Chrestos Concept GmbH & Co. KG. Chrestos is renowned for its expertise in statistics, data science, and natural sciences. The acquisition was facilitated through Evidenze Group Europe, a leading healthcare services provider across Europe and aligns with its buy-and-build growth strategy, marking its ninth acquisition and strengthening its position as a significant player in the healthcare services landscape. This acquisition highlights DLA Piper’s capability to manage high-stakes, cross-border private equity transactions, particularly in the healthcare sector.
