The Importance of Choosing the Right Role: Lessons from My MBA Journey
During my time in the MBA program, one of the most perplexing dilemmas I faced—along with many of my peers—was deciding what to prioritize during campus placements: the role, the salary, or the brand of the company. This decision was particularly challenging given the constraints of being in a tier 3 college, where opportunities are often limited, and it is rare to secure all three simultaneously.
Reflecting on my career journey, I have come to realize during my job that the role should take precedence over both money and the brand name of the company. Here’s why:
Career Growth and Skill Development : The role you choose determines the nature of the work you will be doing daily. Selecting a role that aligns with your interests and strengths allows for greater engagement and job satisfaction.
Without job satisfaction and the interest in the work, for the some time you can work or survive in the good company and can earn handsome money but in the long run you will observe that you will not start your work and start complaining every day in your life and then start dissatisfaction and you start regretting about your decision and which cannot be reverse that time.
As per my experience, talking with your seniors and gaining insightful information about the role can give you some base idea about the work and that will bring a clear idea about your future regarding that particular role.
Conclusion: While the allure of a high salary or a reputable brand can be strong, the role you choose is ultimately the foundation of your career. Prioritizing a role that aligns with your skills, interests, and long-term goals is the key to building a successful and satisfying career. During my MBA course, I learned that making this choice wisely can set the stage for both personal and professional growth, even when faced with the limitations of a tier 3 college placement scenario.
