The Government of Alberta news release talks about the creation of a new police agency. While Minister Ellis has repeatedly said the provincial government is not creating a provincial police service, many political commentators and public safety experts have strong doubts. We are supportive of any effort that is likely to improve the safety, security and well-being of Albertans. That said, ABmunis was not consulted on any aspect of Bill 11. Our members, who represent the communities in which more than 85% of Albertans live, were not consulted either. Even the union that represents Alberta Sheriffs has said it was not consulted. We have lots of questions: What is the mandate of this agency? When will it be created? How will it be governed? How much will it cost? What kinds of calls will Sheriffs be responding to? Imagine for a moment, what it must be like to be exposed on a daily basis to some of the worst people, situations and attrocities that occur in our world. Then imagine that despite trying your very best to uphold the law, you face pressures not only from within your ranks and from your management (who is frequently adjusting policy and reacting to political pressures), but then you also face constant disrespect from a growing segment of the population because the media and government of the day are forever pushing stories about the "bad calls" that are/have been made (that had nothing to do with you) and then you go home alone to "live with it" because in many cases nobody (including therapists) honestly know how to help you through your personal #mentalhealth because they're operating out of books, rather than experience. There's a reason my firm includes a blue line in its challenge coins and related materials. #Police (as a whole), like ALL #EmergencyServices providers, deserve our #respect, #support, #guidance, and #training. These last years IMO policing has been too reactive to poor behaviours. It’s focus on call-out cultures has led to either behaviours not being addressed (due to internal mistrust and fear) or incidents like these where harm is observed I’m seeing senior officers today releasing the usual statements saying how abhorrent this behaviour is. Whilst that’s important I just see reaction. 3 yrs post the murder of Sarah Everard and these attitudes persist in polcing. Why is that? You can tell people to do stuff but if they don’t feel safe they won’t Work of John Dovidio around cost v benefits is relevant. Policing needs to take culture seriously. Berthoud “Back the Blue Rally” on July 26, 2020… Hosted and organized by yours truly after about 3 months of planning and building the event and local/state/federal security after terroristic antifa threats… 350+ patriots in attendance and approximately 20 statewide antifa extremists and town board trustees protesting in opposition… 4 years later now, this is where my political drive began… Many who know me, know that this is where I took on the mission to become the change that I wanted to see. When my “Back The Blue Rally” was demonized by a couple leftist extremists in the small town of Berthoud. I had to fight those that corrupted our town board of trustees for 6 months thereafter, fighting against their agenda of trying to terminate the contract with our Sheriff’s Office in their “defund the police” rhetoric. I realized that it was much worse than I imagined and spread far beyond the borders of our town or even our state. That was when I decided to run for a state legislative seat with increasing success. I will continue to strive for helping our law enforcement heroes to do their jobs safely and effectively again, and keep them from being hindered and demonized by leftist agenda. We need to remove the burdens placed on law enforcement over the past few years and empower them to continue protecting and serving our communities. State and federal governments are now spending $6.4 billion each year on the construction and operation of prisons, with spending having almost doubled in just 10 years. Incarceration costs Australian taxpayers $422 per prisoner per day, or $153,895 per prisoner per year...... Imagine if we used that money to invest in children instead.... Social programs, youth centres, food and education subsidies for at-risk youths, free sports memberships... Taking away people's lives whose only real crime is to be born poor, isn't justice. If prisons worked, why are there still prisons?

Victoria firefighters, brandishing sledgehammers and axes to protect paramedics from being attacked two nights ago, are my heroes right now. There's always going to be some inter-agency rivalry and pisstaking, but when the chips are down, medics, fire and police stand as one. Someone in Victoria, find out who that engine crew is and I'll send them some beers, for real. I'm unaware of any other jurisdiction in Canada where fire and EMS must have police top cover to respond to calls in a certain area. It's an unfortunate 'first', but decades of failed leftist mismanagement, cowardice, and delusion about criminal justice, homelessness, poverty, mental illness, and drugs, have got us to this point. It will take a massive federal course correction in autumn 2025 to begin to undo the damage.
