The most underrated human need: It's not food. It's not water. It's not shelter. It's connection. Neuroscientist Matthew Lieberman's research shows: Our need to connect is more fundamental than basic survival needs. Think about it: We're wired for social interaction Loneliness impacts health like smoking Strong relationships boost longevity Yet, we often neglect this crucial aspect. We prioritize: Career advancement Financial success Personal achievements But at what cost? Remember: Success feels empty without people to share it with Wealth can't buy genuine connections Achievements mean little in isolation Here's how to nurture your social needs: 1. Prioritize relationships 2. Practice active listening 3. Show vulnerability 4. Offer support without expectation 5. Cultivate empathy Your challenge: Invest in one meaningful connection today. When fear and self-doubt creep in, it’s often a signal that you’re out of sync with your heart’s true desires. I’ve felt this deeply in my own life. For years, I walked a path that society and my parents assured me was the only way to achieve financial stability. It felt safe, but it never felt right. Deep down, I knew I wanted something else. I wanted to write. I wanted to build a community—a space where ideas flow, where like-minded people connect, share, and grow together. But every time I listened to my heart, my mind reminded me of the "secure" traditional path, convincing me to stay where I was, i was not ready to come out of my comfort zone. This constant battle left me questioning myself. Self-doubt grew stronger because I wasn’t being honest with myself. And I’ve learned that when you force yourself to fit into something that doesn’t align with who you are, it only leads to frustration and collapse in the long run So here’s what I want to tell you: never be afraid to follow your heart. Yes, there will be risks. Yes, you’ll face resistance—from society, family, and even with your own mind. But the regret of not trying is far worse than the fear of failing. If you’re in a position where you need to take a job for survival, do it. But don’t let it kill your dreams. Nurture your passion alongside it. Take baby steps toward the life that truly matters , eventually you will find your purpose. Because when you follow your heart, the challenges you face won’t break you. They’ll shape you into someone stronger, resilient, charismatic and more fulfilled.

Be unapologetic about your goals and priorities. There will always be trade-offs and no one has to answer for those except for you. Here are mine: 1. Spiritual, physical and emotional health: This means that I ensure I am taking care of myself DAILY. I say no to a lot of things to make space to do this. 2. Ensure my immediate family is taken care of: This does not mean I pick my kids up from school every day or I attend every event they are in. This means that I make sure the village we have to support us can be there if I can't. It is unrealistic to think I can build and grow and business and not miss an ounce of my children's childhood. I miss things and my family is thriving. I will adjust when and if needed. 3. Work: In this season of my life, work trumps hang time with friends, extended family, extracurricular events and a local community I am invested in. This was hard for me to come to peace with for a long time. Was I missing something? Am I a workaholic? Am I resistant to community? The answer to all of these questions is NO. I am not missing anything. I have found community, deep relationship and energy from the way that I engage with the people I choose to work with. My life is not balanced. It is integrated, intense, adventurous, fun, joyful, exhausting at times but overall deeply meaningful. Do you have priorities that are controversial?

Community is a powerful healer. Being with people who understand you, who support you, and who let you be who you are is medicine for the soul. I don't believe any corporation can create the kind of community that's necessary to empower and uplift employees. There is always a business motive lurking in the shadows. What we are creating exists outside any one company. While we are motivated towards deep transformation of the #ediscoveryindustry, there is no business motive here. We don't want you to get well so you can get back to work. We want you to heal because you deserve to feel healthy, as we all do. We want you to thrive, because we know when you thrive, you positively impact the people around you. And I will be fully upfront here - I would not create a community that's only aim is moral support. That's important, but so is taking steps towards change. And I know we're more powerful when we do that together. At the end of the day, this community will become what YOU want it to become. We are holding the space and creating a supportive network because we know you are the key to change in the industry. So join us and let's see what we can do together! There’s nothing more detrimental to mental health than living in a social desert. When our environment forces us to rush out of our neighborhood early in the morning to escape traffic and return home late at night, opportunities to meet our neighbors and build trust within our community become scarce. Isolation and social connections are major indicators of happiness, and the design of our environment significantly impacts our ability to build relationships. Single-family enclosed neighborhoods can become havens of isolation. However, integrating coffee shops, communal garages, parks, small convenience stores, and other communal spaces can enhance social interaction within the neighborhood, radically improving residents’ sense of security and satisfaction. Studies have shown that strong relationships contribute to better and longer lives. Why not optimize our cities to foster these connections?

“When storms loom in the distance, be a lighthouse. “ I shared the essence of this message with the a former employer at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe, in times of strife, and anxious uncertainty should be seen by businesses as an opportunity for management to empathize with their employees, and work proactively and with care to address mental health and emotional challenges. This builds sustainable culture. This build community. People need secure attachment, even to their work. As Dan Siegel said, they deserve to feel safe, seen, soothed, secured. This is part of the mission at Trine [https://lnkd.in/gMPD3beh], to remain trauma-aware and trauma-informed, to stay grounded, as a beacon of stability, safety, and healing, built upon the strong belief in community. You are your own medicine. You are your own authority. You have ultimate autonomy over your own body, mind and spirit. Staying true to this message especially in times of uncertainty and anxiety is essential to our being and to the community we serve.
