Check out Chapter 4 of James’ wish journey, and see how our wish granting volunteers help him discover his wish.
James has endured years of medical appointments, surgeries and long hospital stays during his young life. In the next step of his wish journey James has been granted a wish, getting to meet his wish-granting volunteers during a wish discovery meeting. This special moment is where our incredible volunteers sit down with each wish kid to discover their heartfelt wish. Whether it’s “I wish to have…” “I wish to be…” or something entirely their own, this is their chance to dream, imagine, and express what they truly want—not what anyone else envisions for them. These meetings are more than just conversations—they’re moments of joy, hope and influence for kids who often have little say in their medical experiences. Whether they draw, talk or play, the wish discovery process is entirely led by the child. It empowers them in a way that brings light and excitement into their lives. But we can’t make this possible without our incredible volunteers—and donors like you. Together, we can provide transformative joy and lasting memories to kids and their families – right here in Michigan – as they navigate a critical illness. You have the power to change a life. With just $19 a month, you can play a vital role in transforming the lives of children like James. (And as a monthly donor, you’ll receive your choice of an exclusive Make-A-Wish Michigan t-shirt.) Help us reach more Michigan wish kids in need. Donate now at michigan.wish.org/givejoy #wishmi #helpgrantwishes #journeyofawish https://lnkd.in/eYSTz_c2

"Can you remember who you were before the world told you who to be?" – Charles Bukowski This thought-provoking quote from Bukowski challenges us to look deeper, to remember the unfiltered, authentic selves we once were—before society taught us to conform, to fit neatly within predefined boundaries. As children, our minds were open and brimming with curiosity, ready to explore the world without judgment or constraint. But over time, as the structures of family, education, and culture took shape, we learned to fit in, often at the cost of our individuality. Imagine if we could reclaim that original sense of self. Science now tells us it's possible! Through neural plasticity, our brains have the extraordinary ability to adapt and change, even as adults. This means we can unlearn limiting beliefs, replace them with empowering ones, and align more closely with who we truly are. Breaking free from these layers of conditioning doesn’t happen overnight, but with intention and persistence, it’s achievable. Think of it as a journey back to your authentic self—a journey that values curiosity, self-discovery, and the courage to carve your own path. Let Bukowski's words remind us that it’s never too late to return to our essence, to live fully, authentically, and to create a life true to who we are. #AuthenticSelf #NeuralPlasticity #BreakFree #SelfDiscovery #Bukowski #GrowthMindset https://wix.to/qPEe6Hc #newblogpost

April marks Testicular Cancer Awareness Month, a crucial time to shed light on this often overlooked form of cancer. Testicular cancer doesn't discriminate – it can affect anyone with testicles, including men, transgender (trans) women, and people assigned male at birth. With around 2,300 individuals diagnosed each year, awareness is key. Whether you're personally impacted by testicular cancer or simply want to learn more, we're here to provide valuable information and support. Let's join forces to raise awareness and encourage early detection. Together, we can make a difference. https://lnkd.in/eWqiC5nc 💙 #TesticularCancerAwareness #EarlyDetection #HealthAwareness 🎗️

It's the final week of Movember and the ginger 'stache continues to exist! Thank you to all of you who have donated to the effort, I'm halfway to my goal and can use any extra spare change out there you might have! Visit my Movember page here to donate today! You'll also see why I MO, for my daughter and my hopes to be an embarrassing dad for years to come. https://lnkd.in/eFvnrQE Normally I use these posts to focus on a particular area that Movember supports through research and education (mental health, prostate cancer, testicular cancer and general health). This time I wanted to do something different based on what I've personally experienced in the last week. I was emailed by someone yesterday in the Movember community that they lost a family member to suicide Monday night. They had talked to the individual on Friday, nothing seemed out of the ordinary. We just don't know where people are at and sometimes we have to go to them. Especially this time of year with the added stress that the holiday's can bring. While I constantly message for guys to sign up for a physical, ladies, a moment dedicated to you. I had a person I know go in for a routine annual mammogram last week, a mass was detected, a biopsy take and 3 days later they received a positive test result for breast cancer. Never good news, but the positive is that it was caught very early due to the annual check and prognosis for treatment is favorable. Women are a huge driver in male health (ladies - keep after us to go to the doctor!), so we need you all healthy as well to partner with us to that end. My point is this. Take a moment to check in. Not only with those around you but also with yourself. For those of you who know me know I'm an partially-overweight-beer-drinking-cheese-loving-partially-in-shape-middle-aged-male that struggles with maintaining my general wellness like 90% of you (checking off enough boxes with that description?). But...I've got my annual check up scheduled, getting updated blood work done and I know my family health history. That was just my week and I'm one person, imagine the number of instances with the aggregate of all of you reading this. So take advantage of the holiday season to ask family members about health history. Check in on your friends and how they are doing. If I can be open about my situation on a platform like this, you should be able to be open with yourself in the environment you choose. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving break and a great rest of your 2024. There might be one more Mustache related post before I give you back your time until next year! And if you have any money left over after Black Friday, consider visiting the link above to donate to men's health efforts in honor of a guy in your life (we all have them!). #scheduleanannualexam #menshealth #womenshealth #mentalhealth #prostatecancer #testicularcancer #uwmenshealth
