Over the past few months, I’ve engaged with leaders from university presses and aggregators, and one message has stood out: syndicated usage reporting is essential—particularly for publishers relying on third-party aggregators to distribute eBooks to academic libraries worldwide. Usage reporting goes beyond counting downloads. It’s a critical tool that empowers small publishers with: - An informed, global eBook strategy - Business model management - Author insights - Academic library engagement - Benchmarking against competitors - And more... At the Charleston Conference earlier this month, Paradigm Publishing Services joined a meaningful conversation with leaders from EBSCO Information Services, Project MUSE, JSTOR, Clarivate, and Princeton University Press to address this issue. Together, we’re working on an initiative to standardize and enhance usage reporting across aggregators, creating a more transparent and collaborative ecosystem for publishers, authors, and libraries. I look forward to sharing our progress with our advisory board participants later this year. Transparency and collaboration are essential for publishers to compete on a level playing field, and it’s a testament to the shared commitment of support for university presses and small, independent publishers that competitors can come together to create solutions that benefit all stakeholders. #Transparency #ScholarlyPublishing #UniversityPresses #ParadigmPublishingServices
