The 2023 annual financial statements of the Würth Group show: The Group is growing. 🔼 🔢 The Würth Group has closed the 2023 fiscal year with a new sales record of EUR 20.4 billion. The operating result came to EUR 1.5 billion and is the second-best result in the company’s history. Equity increased to EUR 8.8 billion and ensures stability. 🌍 The impressive growth shows that our business model and long-term strategy continue to be successful: Our international and decentralized positioning as well as our activities in a wide range of sectors and our multi-channel strategy have proven their worth. 💪 This broad positioning ensures independence and stability. As CFO, I am pleased to present you with remarkable figures 📊 from the 2023 fiscal year of the Würth Group: ◾ Our employees are at the heart of our success. The number of employees worldwide has increased by 1,410. In absolute terms, this is slightly more than the 87,000 employees we had at the end of the year. 👏 ◾ Würth’s core business is the production and sale of assembly and fastening materials. We generate 54 percent of total sales in this business area. When analyzing your P&L, it's always great to build in a Volume/Rate analysis...and if you're not - you should! But wait, what is volume/rate analysis? In the simplest terms, for each expense item that is tied to volume it will show you how much of the favorable/unfavorable variances are coming from volume changes vs "rate". If your sales are increasing, you'd expect total COGS to increase as well but you want the contributor to be because of volume changes, not the rate. There are a variety of ways to do this but as an example, see the image below. As you can see, in this example, Net Revenue grew by 24%. COGS were unfavorable by roughly 23% but as we layer in our volume/rate analysis we can see the vast majority of the unfavourability comes purely from the increase in volume. This is a relatively easy implementation. Go from just reporting your P&L to providing clear, digestible, insights into your P&L to your management team, Board, and investors.
