I am attending the TPA Educators’ Summit on Cultivating Well-Educated Minds in a Miseducated World. The speakers and subject matter have been amazing so far. Dr. Christopher Perrin spoke on what it means to be well-educated. He noted that education is an ideal we can never completely attain—to be educated is to realize all you are un-educated about. He also discussed reasons to be a teacher and examples of mentorship. He noted that in order the be a teacher, one must be a student, never losing zeal (studium) for learning. What is a teacher but an immature student? What is a student but an immature teacher?

Rules: Showing Students the Big Picture Sometimes, students resist rules because they don't see how those rules affect them or their future. If we frame classroom rules within the context of life skills, like respect, responsibility, and teamwork, students can see that these are more than just temporary mandates – they are lessons for life! When they realise that following rules now helps them succeed later, rules start to feel like valuable tools rather than obstacles. Dear Teacher, share one classroom rule with your students today and explain how it connects to a life skill they'll need in the future. Let them see the long-term benefit!

Effective education begins with listening. Whether we’re talking with clients, family members, or team members, true education is about dialogue, not a monologue. Listening empathetically and going to people where they are—intellectually and emotionally—creates connections that foster real understanding. At Serenity Lane, we prioritize education through conversation. By shifting from “talking to” people to “talking with” them, we build a foundation for trust and deeper learning.
