Here we go again. The bi-annual UK Farnborough Airshow, in the southern county of Hampshire, is about to begin (July 22nd-26th) with weather conditions more befitting a typical English summer than 2022, when attendees experienced extreme 40 centigrade heat (110 Fahrenheit). The 45th Farnborough is seen as one of the largest airshow events in the world, and AAM-related companies are making a more visible appearance than before as the industry continues to grow. https://lnkd.in/e8eRxX9D #FarnboroughAirshow #UKAviation #Farnborough45 #AAMCompanies #AviationTechnology #AerospaceInnovation #FarnboroughExhibition

The first airshow propelled audiences into a world of aviation wonders 100 years ago. Today, there are about 300 airshows around the world including #SGAirshow2026, each differing in scale and scope but sharing the same purpose: to champion human ambition and the relentless pursuit of improvement and innovation. How have airshows evolved and stood against the test of time? Join us as we delve into the first part of our latest series, where we look at how far airshows have come. A wide ranging agenda, conversations and plans at the European Gliding Union (EGU) airspace group meeting in Frankfurt today. All across Europe, there are similar lower airspace issues each with a range of proposals, solutions and plenty of successes, including from effective engagement and collaboration. Sadly, there’s also what look like disproportionate wholesale airspace grabs for the sole benefit of an airport or mil operator; particularly feel for our Dutch and Belgique colleagues… UAS operations are obviously a part of the airspace scenery (but not THE future, despite the rhetoric) and an affordable and effective e-conspicuity environment is of course important. EASA’s i-conspicuity is attractive… It’ll be interesting to see how it rolls out. Good to get insight on the Swiss approach to airspace modernisation - https://lnkd.in/e9B3QeMu

What a great week down at Farnborough International Airshow #FIA24 Whilst overall, aircraft orders and attendance are down, diversity (of product, and indeed people) is significantly higher. The show, and indeed wider industry are still recovering from the pandamic, but along with this comes a lot of positive change. Over the decade+ that we have been attending, the change is significant, and whilst the flying displays are certainly not what they were (and the lack of cold war jets upsets Apera-bot) the focus on the future more than makes up for this. Alongside this, ‘24s show was the first ever to allow public access to exhibition halls, helping inspire the next generation of engineers, pilots and innovators. There was a greater sense of ‘connection’ to the wider world, and we only see this as a good thing. There is a brave new world slowly commercialising, we can’t wait to see what the next decade will hold. #UnlockingHumanPotential

How do you manage significant background noise during a live audience session? This week I had the privilege of chairing a panel discussion on behalf of Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd at the 2024 Farnborough Air Show. By the time we kicked off there was a decent sized audience clustered around the stand, unsurprisingly, given #netzero is a topic uppermost in the minds of the aviation community and the #airlander aircraft is attracting significant attention. Unfortunately, a couple of minutes in, the event was disrupted by the roaring of jet engines as an air display got underway with a flight path close to the pavilion. At times it soundly like the aircraft were actually overhead! It’s hardly a secret that exhibition halls pose acoustic challenges but this took things to a different level. Here’s some tips on how as a presenter or panel leader you might deal with this type of situation: 1. Don’t panic! Rabbit caught in headlights is rarely a good look. Stay calm and confident, raise your voice but resist the temptation to shout 2. Make a judgement about when to pause and when to re-commence. Take a cue from your audience and observe if they are straining to hear 3. Use humour where appropriate. A well-timed joke or comment acknowledging the cause of the disruption (in this case a dig at Ryanair’s expense) will keep listeners onside 4. Maintain eye contact with your audience around the stand. If you come across as dispirited they will drift away 5. Finally, when the disruption is over, make sure you thank them for sticking around. They will appreciate it. In conclusion I should say that it helps to be alongside great panellists like George Land David Holden, FRAeS and Luis Enrique de la Iglesia y Gotarredona "Quique" and to be on such a visually impactful and well-organised stand Hannah Cunningham thanks to you all #fia2024 #airline
