Today, on National Manufacturing Day, I want to take a moment to reflect on how important manufacturing is to me personally and to Mason Road MFG. Building things has always been at the core of who I am—from working on our farm and feedlot in eastern Nebraska to founding this company to help others bring their products to life. Manufacturing is the backbone of our nation’s economy. It’s the industry that turns raw materials into everything from the products we use daily to the infrastructure that supports our way of life. It’s not just about making things; it’s about innovation, creativity, and problem-solving. For me, there’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing an idea turn into a physical product that improves someone’s life or solves a challenge. At Mason Road MFG, we’ve had the privilege of working with a variety of industries—machine shops, motorsports, agriculture, and more—and what strikes me most is the ingenuity and hard work that goes into each project. Manufacturing is where ideas meet reality, and it’s an honor to help take those ideas from concept to completion. As a farmer, maker, and a designer, I see the same principles at play in all roles: understanding the need, creating a solution, and watching it take form. Manufacturing is what powers small businesses, creates jobs, and drives innovation in ways that ripple across our economy. I am glad to inform you all that my book chapter Pyrolysis and Circularity in the Automotive Industry has been published in the book Transcending Supply Chains in Circular Economy: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach. Given the indispensable nature of tires in the assembly of vehicles, the chapter delves into pyrolysis of end-of-life tires as one of the ways to achieve circularity in the automotive industry while implementing the best practices in process design, plant layout, material selection, and equipment fabrication to address concerns regarding health, safety & environmental impacts of tire pyrolysis plants.
