The Interstate Bridge Replacement program recognizes that a skilled and diverse workforce is critical to the program's success. To identify strategies to improve workforce readiness and empower participation by business owners and workers of historically disadvantaged communities, we recently commissioned a workforce study. The study — a collaborative effort by Clackamas Workforce Partnership, Worksystems and Workforce Southwest Washington — is a key step in understanding the gaps in the region's current workforce and provides recommendations for how to bridge them. Flint & Genesee tracks economic data including similar workforce goals outlined in the State's first-ever Workforce Plan. The Forward Together Vision for Flint & Genesee defines success as becoming a top 5 county in Michigan based on jobs, talent, livability and equity by 2040. Educational Attainment is one of our metrics. As of 2021, Genesee County ranked 34th out of 83 counties with 35.60% of residents over 25 with a postsecondary degree. While Genesee County has work to do to reach top 5, the State's goals, policy changes, investments in workforce, as well as aligned data tracking will help us reach our vision. #ForwardTogetherGenesee
Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer released the Michigan Statewide Workforce Plan. The comprehensive, all-access roadmap lays out ambitious strategies and data-driven actions needed to build on Michigan’s success and ensure all Michiganders have the skills, opportunities and support they need to make it in Michigan. The Michigan Statewide Workforce Plan, unanimously approved by the Michigan Workforce Development Board, marks the first time the State of Michigan has laid out a formal vision to create jobs, support workers and employers.
