The best post on my LinkedIn today!
@jerryscience: "In 1887, a group of men in Argonia, Kansas, added Susanna Madora Salter to the mayoral ballot as a prank, hoping to embarrass women and the temperance movement that she represented. However, to their surprise, Salter won the election with over 60% of the vote, becoming the first woman to be elected as mayor in the United States. She served a successful one-year term as mayor of Argonia and is remembered as a pioneer for women in politics." Post by @jerryscience on Instagram

This is exactly what we need, and I'm excited for what's to come! If you don't know about the Invest in Women Taskforce in the UK, have a look at the amazing work the team is doing to "create one of the world’s largest investment pots of £250m, with capital deployed by female investors to accelerate investment into female-powered businesses across the UK." #FemaleEnterpreneur #Sisterhood #FemaleLed #Enterpreneurship (link in the post below and also in the comments)
Multi-Exit Entrepreneur | Investor | Board Advisor | Co-chair of The UK’s Invest In Women Taskforce - creating the world’s largest funding pot for female-powered businesses
Yesterday at the ‘Women in the Economy’ event at No.11… The new government put forth its support for the Invest in Women Taskforce. This support is extra special as it was announced by Rt Hon Rachel Reeves, the UK’s first female Chancellor. Her support reiterates the government’s commitment to making the UK the best place in the world to be a female founder. Our work has only just begun! More updates to follow here.

Knowledge is power. Knowing history is powerful.
#OnThisDay in #history, 1916, Jeannette Rankin became the first woman elected to #Congress. In so doing, she pioneered the way for future women to enter the highest levels of government. Her own words show us she was hopeful: “I may be the first woman member of Congress, but I won’t be the last.”

Democracy exists only with participation. Your vote is your voice.
This gave me chills. I can't believe it was only 152 year ago ❗ In 1872, Susan B. Anthony and 14 bold women demanded the right to vote to be recognized as full citizens of the United States. Her courage laid the groundwork, inspiring generations of women to come. Thank you to these remarkable women for blaizing the trail so that today we can all exercise our right to vote. After all, your #vote is your voice 🗳 The Female Quotient

Fewer than a quarter of Conservative MPs are women. More than 100 years since (some) women were first able to vote and since the first woman became an MP, this is not good enough. It is not in the interests of parliament or the Conservative Party. We rightly celebrate that in recent years neither gender nor race have been an obstacle to leading the party. This must not, however, obscure the obstacles that deter women from standing, being selected and elected. Women face obstacles to standing at every stage of the process and if we are to avoid pernicious all-women short lists, we must identify and address them. While I believe that constituencies should select the best person to represent them irrespective of gender, I don’t believe that is happening. Today is “Ask Her to Stand” day when we encourage women to stand for election at all levels of government. It would also be a good day to re-commit ourselves to breaking down the barriers that prevent a more equal representation in Parliament.

Election week! It's important to remember the power of our votes, especially for women. Voting is not just a right; it is a powerful tool for shaping our society. Historically, women fought tirelessly to secure the right to vote, facing immense opposition and hardship. Their legacy is a reminder that our voices matter. Every vote cast by a woman today honours their struggle and moves us closer to a more equitable future. At Forth Accountancy we recognise that by voting, we can ensure that topics that are important to us, not only from a finance and economic perspective, but also as women are addressed and prioritised by our leaders. Moreover, supporting candidates who champion women's rights is essential. Diverse representation in government leads to policies that better reflect our experiences and needs. Your vote is your voice. Make it heard in the fight for a fairer, more inclusive world. Together, we can make a difference

🏛️Join the #civility pledge movement initiated by Mayor Marianne Meed Ward (C.Dir.). Details: https://lnkd.in/gAF6t7xC We pledge to: 1. Support each other and call out #abuse and #harassment when we see it or experience it; 2. Call on all our allies to stand with us to support women in office and call out all forms of abuse and harassment; 3. Call on all elected officials to uphold the highest standards of conduct, focusing on #respectful debate of the issues and not personal attacks; 4. Call on the relevant authorities to ensure the protection of individuals who speak out against abuse, or who experience abuse, providing them with the necessary support and resources.
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to and signed the H.E.R. Halton pledge back in May to end harassment of women in government. We have started a movement -- with the pledge being picked up nationally by the Canadian Association of Feminist Parliamentarians! We are now working on what are our next steps and intend to open up our original H.E.R. pledge and invite any elected officials who want to sign on to reach out to my office. We will keep a rolling update, including on my website. If any elected official hasn't done so and would like to, please let us know and we'll add new names as they come in. I also encourage elected officials to reach out to their own networks of women to include anyone who wishes to participate. Learn more and read a copy of the CAFP pledge here: https://lnkd.in/gda7d5zK
