The more I work with activist and read academic theories, the more I beleive there is a gap between the two realms. We need theory-informed activism, and activism-informed scholarship. We shall enhance the interaction of both realms to achieve societal transformation. This integration can pave the way for more informed and impactful actions, and making impact. #Academia #Activism

Empowered Changemakers are able to transcend the "us vs them" mentality that has become so prevalent in the world today. It is easy to judge another person or for them to judge us because we have different beliefs. All artists are activists. Some would jump to call this protest art: and it’s defined by having a social or political message and questions the world’s power struggles. As long as these power struggles exist, there will be protest art. Protest art immediately makes me think of mediums made out of anger and despair. While this is a very important part of art as activism, some view it as the only option. I propose another view. Depicting joy, hope, and the future in art is also activism. In a world that often feels bleak, scary, or even hopeless at times, imagining something better is even more powerful. People in positions of power use fear to fuel inaction. Artists can use hope to fuel action and become the bridge between now and the future. From music, dance, visual arts, and everything in between, using these as mediums of celebration and joy is an act of resistance. Activism is rooted in emotion. Whether that be an emotion you want to scream out or an emotion that you want to dance to, there’s room for it all.
