I'm writing this early on day two of my mini-break in Budapest, where I’m accompanying my mum. Yesterday was all about getting our bearings, walking around town after a very early start at the airport. According to my watch, I clocked in 17,856 steps or 7.5 miles! But today, I want to shift focus to the Entrepreneurs Convention I attended at the ICC in Birmingham on Monday and Tuesday. As usual, the Entrepreneurs Circle know how to put on a bloody good event. It was great to mix and mingle with 1,200 other entrepreneurs—some hugely successful, and others still on the journey to getting there. The main theme of the conference was based around one word: Persistence. If you know me, you know that persistence has been key for me, especially after 26 years of running my own business. It hasn’t always funded the lifestyle I want, and I’ve had to overcome a lot of adversity due to my disability, but I’ve never given up. The convention was a bit of a roller-coaster for me. I tend to wear my heart on my sleeve, and I was a bit frustrated by a few speakers who didn’t offer much takeaway value. But then there were others who inspired me with nuggets I can actually use to grow my business. I learned a lot about myself and what I need from a conference. For me, it’s all about the practical, actionable stuff that I can implement immediately. That’s why, when it comes to UpLift Live, John, Gus and I are really focusing on making sure all the keynotes are packed with hands-on, practical advice to help you grow your own business. I’ll go into what I got from the speakers another time—I need to dig through my notes when I get back home! In the meantime, I’m curious: when you attend a conference, what are your expectations?
