Representatives from #PHSSR member organisation AstraZeneca have shared their views on key issues in healthcare in the latest edition of ‘Health: A Political Choice – Building Resilience and Trust’, a publication produced by The Global Governance Project and distributed to global leaders at the recent World Health Summit 2024. Michel Demaré, Chair of the Board, Iskra Reic, Executive Vice President, Vaccines and Immune Therapies and PHSSR Steering Committee member, and Stefan Werner Weber, Vice President, Global Policy, Advocacy and Health Equity, highlight themes of particular focus for PHSSR, including: 📈 The importance of viewing health system strengthening as a long-term strategic investment, transcending political cycles, that can also benefit economies and improve environmental sustainability. ⏳ How acting early on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through screening, early detection and treatment is key to reducing their burden on patients, health systems and society more broadly. 🤝 The potential of data, technology and public-private-academic partnerships, such as PHSSR, to improve health equity and ensure everyone, everywhere, has a healthy life. 👉 Read the edition now (links to specific pieces of content in the comments): https://bit.ly/hapc24 #Sustainability #Resilience #Health #Partnerships #HealthEquity

Today is #WorldHealthDay and we join the global community to raise awareness that access to quality healthcare is a right of everyone, regardless of where people live. In low- and middle-income countries, challenges to quality healthcare are becoming increasingly more complex requiring new models and mindsets to break silos to create partnerships that can drive sustainable change. I’m proud of the progress that our Global Health Unit has made in the past two years, helping to address access disparities and strengthen healthcare ecosystems in countries with the highest unmet medical needs. We have achieved this through cross-sector partnerships on a global, national and local level. A snapshot of our progress and impact over the past two years includes: - over 6,000 community health workers and HCPs received training, - more than 360,000 patients have been reached, and -over 40 active or completed programs in over 22 countries. We are continuing to build momentum to address the healthcare inequalities that continue to persist. Only 4% of all healthcare research and development is focused on female-specific conditions. This staggering statistic was highlighted by Juan Camilo Arjona Ferreira, M.D., Organon Head of Research & Development and Chief Medical Officer, during a health equity panel at Reuters Pharma 2024 (#REpharma2024). During this session, “Secure Faster, Equitable and Broader Global Access,” healthcare leaders discussed the women’s health gap and the importance of an ecosystem approach where, together, we: 👂 Listen to women and consider race, ethnicity and social drivers of health to improve outcomes while reducing inequities 👩 Increase access to diagnostics and solutions to help all women sooner 🤝 📈 Collaborate across the healthcare ecosystem to speed up innovation Thank you to Jayasree Iyer, CEO, Access to Medicine Foundation for moderating this timely panel and the thought leaders who contributed in a robust discussion: Harmony P. Garges, CMO, ViiV Healthcare and Nicholas Brooke, Executive Director, Patient Focused Medicines Development (PFMD). #WomensHealth #GenderEquality

Just wrapped up some inspiring sessions at Ausbiotech today, and the key themes for staying ahead in our industry couldn’t be more relevant. To drive real impact and bring more clinical trials to Australia, we need to focus on: • Diversity: Leveraging Australia’s diverse population to ensure clinical data is inclusive and representative. • Disease Focus: Targeting areas where Australia excels in recruitment, like infectious disease, to build on our strengths. • Education: Equipping teams and communities with the knowledge to adapt and thrive in an evolving healthcare landscape. • Streamlined Clinical Trials: Tackling healthcare system barriers that impede trials, so breakthroughs reach patients faster. • Teletrials: Enhancing access through teletrials to include patients from outside metro areas, fostering inclusivity and participation. These areas will shape the future of our industry and help us deliver better outcomes for all. #Ausbiotech #HealthcareInnovation #ClinicalTrials #Teletrials #DiversityInHealthcare #EducationInHealth
