Today, on World Health Day, we reflect on this year's theme: "My Health, My Rights." In the spirit of fostering an environment where mental health is given paramount importance, it's crucial to highlight the strides made under India's Mental Healthcare Act (MHCA) 2017. This progressive legislation empowers individuals with mental illness by ensuring their rights to access quality mental health care and treatment without discrimination. It also decriminalizes suicide, acknowledging the need for compassionate support rather than punitive measures. Let's use #WorldHealthDay to spread awareness about the MHCA 2017 and advocate for a society where mental health care is a right, not a privilege. #MentalHealthMatters #MyHealthMyRights #MHCA2017 #partnerships #Health #socialimpact #patientrights

In my latest piece for Article 14, I have argued that the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 guarantees the right to community living to people with mental illnesses. During parliamentary discussions, considerable emphasis being placed on this right. Parliamentarians proposed the establishment of halfway homes and other community-based alternatives, describing long-term hospitalisation as a last-resort, applicable only in extreme cases. However, failure to establish halfway homes violates the right to community living and emphasises the need for reform in mental health care. #mentalhealth #humanrights #mentalillness #india #communityliving

TLDR: Everyone should prioritize their mental health just as they do their physical health. While I may sometimes skip weight training sessions for a few weeks if my work schedule gets too hectic (even though a gym session for me is the easiest way to unwind and reset after a tough day), I always make time daily for a 10-minute meditation session using my Calm meditation app. I even paid for a lifetime membership back in 2019 during my PhD days, when evaluating my monthly stipend made me rethink this decision over and over. Today, I can confidently say that it has been the best investment I have made. Even a brief meditation break of just 2 minutes helps me significantly alleviate my daily stress levels and refresh my mind, thereby helping me tackle the next task with renewed focus. Lastly, it’s important to make efficient use of all available mental health care resources at your disposal. At the very least, please consider reaching out to your loved ones and close friends if you’re facing mental health challenges. While it may seem difficult at the moment, sharing and seeking support can make a significant difference and help you appreciate the gift of life. #MentalHealthWeek #MentalHealth

With its emphasis on breathing practices and meditation — both of which help calm and center the mind — it's hardly surprising that yoga also brings mental benefits, such as reduced anxiety and depression. What may be more surprising is that it actually makes your brain work better. When you lift weights, your muscles get stronger and bigger. When you do yoga, your brain cells develop new connections, and changes occur in brain structure as well as function, resulting in improved cognitive skills such as learning and memory. Yoga strengthens parts of the brain that play a key role in memory, attention, awareness, thought, and language. Think of it as weightlifting for the brain. #WellnessCanada, #YogaForAll #HealthyLiving #MindBodyBalance #SelfCareSunday #WellnessJourney #NamasteCanada #YogaCommunity #WellnessGoals #HealthyLifestyle #YogaEveryday #WellnessTips #YogaInspiration #WellnessMatters #YogaLove #WellnessInCanada #YogaForWellbeing #HealthyMindBody #YogaForLife #WellnessForAll.

It's Mental Health Week in Canada, and it's a reminder for all of us to prioritize our mental well-being. As a professional woman who values positivity but also understands the challenges of anxiety, I know firsthand the importance of mental health awareness and support. Anxiety is something I navigate, and it's okay to admit that it's a part of my journey. It doesn't define me, but it does remind me to practice self-care and seek help when I need it. It's a reminder that it's okay not to be okay sometimes. Let's use this week to break the stigma surrounding mental health. Let's check in on our loved ones, practice kindness, and remember that seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Together, we can create a more supportive and understanding world for everyone. 💙 #MentalHealthWeek #BreakTheStigma

Our "Bending the Curve" report shows that integrating mental health care into TB services could result in as many as 14 million TB cases being avoided. That’s more than the predicted number of cases for any year between now and 2030.
