While we join the national vision of empowering the youngsters in Uzbekistan through English language proficiency, we must not forget that a language is not restricted to a list of topics or a curriculum to pass. IT as another focus area here needs a strong hand in English language in case one has the ambition to expand career horizons. I can even dare to say that good English and Communication Skills can even be stronger reasons to get a job or become an entrepreneur than having a degree in IT or any other tech/subject domain. English includes IT in it as it is a language. If IT and other domains of specialisation can make English proficiency a flag bearer, success is assured. #CareerCommunication #English #Uzbekistan #CommunicationSkills #Insights

Minister Majodina being sworn in by South African parliament sometime in July’24 👏🏾 I love how she turned it into an iconic moment where she realized she mispronounced “conscientiously” and brushed it off by calming herself down and saying “that’s ok” lol. We sometimes take English too seriously, when it’s our second or even third or fourth language we have all the excuse in the world not to be excellent at it 😉 (A bit of a tongue twister: “Conscientiously”: (kon. shee. en. shuh. slee) 😂 Means in a thorough and responsible manner.) Fun Fact: English: The most spoken language in the world, with over 1.5 billion speakers. It's the official language of 67 countries and is used in business, education, and entertainment. Mandarin Chinese is the second most spoken language in the world, with 1.1 billion speakers spoken in Mainland China and Taiwan. South Africa, where she is originally from has eleven official languages: English, Afrikaans and nine ethnic languages, of which Zulu and Xhosa are the most widely spoken. While most South Africans can communicate in more than one language, English is the most commonly spoken and the language of official business and commerce. Amharic as of 2020, has over 33,700,000 mother-tongue speakers and more than 25,100,000 second language speakers. That’s roughly around 58 million speakers. DREAMING BIG: Vouching for SWAHILI at the United Nations I think Swahili should be recognized and used as one of the official UN Languages. I understand that there are other languages spoken in more and larger regions of the continent. Nevertheless, I will continue to champion for Swahili inclusion in the UN. Here are a few Key Points to Ponder 1. Africa is the CRADLE of humankind from where we all honorably emanated 2. Africa HOSTS close to 100 M people who speak Swahili or some dialect of it 3. Africa is HOME to at least 14 countries where Swahili is spoken officially and consistently 4. African countries are largely present BENEFICIARIES of the United Nations mechanisms 5. Africa hosts global UN offices from where UN coordinates some of its global operations 6. Africa continues to attract global INVESTORS across board and oceans 7. African CULTURAL practices blend into this Arabic/Bantu lingua 8 African ACADEMIC departments around the globe, teach Swahili as an African lingua franca 9. Africa hosts RELIGIOUS and ACADEMIC institutions inducted in Swahili/Bantu 10. If you SPEAK Swahili, you will understand Bantu and more than half of Africa Not to mention that Swahili immerses Arabic, English, Portoguese, Spanish, French and a myriad of other Bantu languages spoken in the continent. I am sure you have more compelling reasons why Swahili should be a UN language. You may add them in response. 😎 #unitednations #swahili #language #africa #unitednations United Nations
