DON'T make paper airplanes out of your receipts! Just kidding, thankfully none of our drivers do that 😂. Here are 3 tips to manage those receipts: 🔵 ensure you get a receipt for all services paid for at delivery (lumpers, TWIC escort, and late fee payments) 🔵 store those receipts with the load's BOL 🔵 submit those receipts along with your BOLs #EmployeeOwnedSafetyDriven

Please have a read of this eye opening article below on load security/control. If you have any questions please get it touch- SpanSet helping keep the roads safer for everyone!
The SpanSet team were recently invited by Sergeant Peter Snook, Commercial Vehicle Unit (Abnormal Loads) Lancashire Constabulary to attend one of the regular Roadside HGV Check Days at Cuerden Enforcement Site near Preston. This was an opportunity for the Police, National Highways and DVSA to learn about the latest load control innovations and industry best practice. It was an opportunity for the SpanSet team to experience what was happening on the roads and ensure they stay relevant and up to date. The purpose of the day was not to catch drivers out but to educate – to help protect both drivers and the public from unsafe loads. Read the full article to see how many vehicles were compliant with relevant legislation and how many required load security adjustment and/or Load security Prohibition notices served where appropriate and proportionate, and see examples of poorly secured loads - warning you will be shocked! "Boeing overcharged Air Force $150K for soap dispensers: watchdog..." ------------ Of course they did. Remember the $640.00 toilet seats and $400.00 hammers from 1985? Sadly, it's not just Boeing. Screwing over DoD and their service minions is a Cottage Industry. WHY? Because the Oversight Procedures and Fail-Safes designed to prevent such nefarious actions are broken, rely on the inmates who run the asylum, or they're simply not enforced because life is hARd. In fact, some of the bigger more savvy Civilian firms have people whose sole purpose is to figure out how to squeeze more money out of DoD. Making it easier for these folks is DoD itself - and each armed service - because each have folks whose primary function for a period of time is to negotiate multi-gazillion dollar contracts at the bidding of the Service Chiefs or their "duly appointed representatives." Why easier? Because often some of these stalwart negotiators of contracts (and their immediate bosses) have little or no idea what the hell they're doing. Just as often as not, they confuse "getting all of the correct signatures in place on the Routing Sheet" with "succussfully negotiating a contract that satisfies the stated Performance Parameters and Milestones AND meets or exceeds the implied/specified abilities tied to the intent of the purchase in the first place AND that it supports the doctrinal use of "X" at the tactical, operational, and/or strategic levels as applicable." The former is relatively easy, the latter...not so much. When the process is rushed - usually due to a "moral imperative" - you end up fielding sub-standard materiel solutions like the LCS, ACV and Zumwalt Class Destoyers. When the process flounders for years, spinning in circles before an adult with more than an ounce of common sense finally cancels it, you've wasted billions and billions of tax payer dollars on expensive paper-weights like the M-247 Sgt York, M-8 Armored Gun System, the EFV, the Rah66 Commanche and Future Combat Systems. Said another way, its akin to a LCpl financing an $85,000 vehicle at the low APR of 34% for 72 months...12 times a year. Oddly, some folks seem to think that this is a relatively new phenomenon and that only GWOT funds were wasted like so much ignored running kitchen sink water. Truth is, DoD has been mismanaging money since it was known as the War Department. There are a ton of reasons for this - some legitimate, some less so, but regardless, something needs to change. The people in desicion-cycle positions who actually strive to be Good Shepherds / Stewards of the taxpayer dollar are far outnumbered by the folks who don't give a shit. Combine the IDGAF attitude with an archaic and dinosauric acquisition process and you have an enduring recipe for an unmitigated disaster Pie that gets served year after year and decade after decade. No substitutions, no alternate selections. Everyone agrees that it tastes like shit but no one does anything to make it taste better.

💡 Quick Market Update ⛽ Diesel is on the rise again and increased by 3.2 cents/gallon to $3.89. Prices have now risen in four of the past seven weeks. 💰 $5M in stolen cargo was recovered in Los Angeles by detectives. Items ranged from copper/brass to firearms, tires and home theater systems. 🍁 Canadian authorities seized $50M worth of meth near the N Dakota border. ✈ Today is when Lufthansa ground crews in Germany are set to go on strike for one day. 🎸 Country legend Toby Keith passed away yesterday. As a big fan of "Should've Been a Cowboy" this one hurt to see. 🏈 Chiefs vs 49ers, who ya got? I'd love to see the 49ers take it but Patrick Mahomes always finds a way to keep it interesting. Should be a great game! Currently I have a very solid 8-person team (looking to add more), with a massively experienced operations team behind me. From finding somewhere to stop in the first place to worrying about whether their vehicle and load will be safe while they leave it, lorry drivers have a lot to think about when they decide to take a break. This report and some of the low satisfaction scores highlight the work that needs to be done to make things better for the freight community. It's not a simple solution. Multiple organisations across sectors need to play a part in this. And that's why Transport Focus is bringing people together in the new year to start developing a long term solution. If you think you should be a part of this solution then get in touch.
Nearly half of lorry drivers are dissatisfied with rest stops, our survey reveals. Transport Focus is bringing together the public and private sector to create long-term solutions to improve safety, facilities and availability. Alex Robertson, Chief Executive of the independent watchdog Transport Focus, said: “Our new research shows the scale of the problem that persists and that’s why we are bringing government and industry together to develop a long-term solution so we can keep our lorries, and the people who drive them, moving safely.” Find out more: https://ow.ly/iBnv50U07X4 #NationalLorryWeek Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom | National Highways

Insightful work from the team at Transport Focus. Putting a spotlight on some very low satisfaction scores with rest facilities. Scores that are considerably lower than we see in other areas of our work for transport users. And some very clear calls to action to improve the safety and facilities for lorry drivers. Who are vital in keeping the country's economy moving...
