🌾Meet the farmers of Digha village of Birbhum district in West Bengal who transformed their livelihood through livestock management. When climate adversities strained their economic well-being, they switched from agriculture to livestock management. 🐄 However, they lacked the operational know-how, leading to poor growth and mortality. Things turned worse when in 2022, a sheep and goat plague affected their livestock. They reached out to Reliance Foundation which organised vaccination camps in association with Md. Bazar Mobile Veterinary Clinic and West Bengal Poultry Federation, providing free-of-cost treatment to livestock for 3 months. A total of 271 goats and 125 cattle received treatment through this initiative. They also participated in an awareness session acquiring knowledge on nutritious feed, shed management, vaccination schedules, climate-resilient breeds and animal health. Today, the farmers successfully manage their livestock. Priyasish and Sujit are two such farmers, who like others from the community, leverage regular advisories and audio conferences by Reliance Foundation and utilise the helpline to promptly address their inquiries. Reliance Foundation commends the information seeking behaviour of Digha village communities leading to transformative impact for their livelihoods #RelianceFoundation #RuralTransformation #TransformationalTuesdays #RelianceFoundationTransformingLives #WeCare #LivestockManagement #Poultry #LivelihoodTransformation #ClimateResilience #CommunityEmpowerment #LivestockHealth #FarmersSuccess #CapacityBuilding #RuralDevelopment #EmpoweringCommunities

Have you ever seen the ‘Yellow Tags’ on the ears of cattle and wondered, ‘What is this tagging for?’. 🤔❓ Today I will tell you one of the big decisions that the Maharashtra government has taken recently for the safety of cattle inside the state. Starting June 1, a transformative change is coming to Maharashtra's agricultural landscape. Cattle from other states will be prohibited from entering without 'ear tagging,' a measure aimed at preventing illegal transportation and slaughter. This initiative, part of the National Digital Livestock Mission under the central government's animal husbandry department, involves tagging cattle with a 12-digit barcode. This barcode will record vital information such as birth, vaccination, medical treatment, and ownership transfers, ensuring a comprehensive livestock management system. That is a lot of tracking information with just one tag. 😱 The move means that untagged animals won't be allowed for sale at weekly markets or villages, and they won't receive treatment at veterinary hospitals. Even the slaughter of untagged animals in slaughterhouses will be banned. Dr. Manjusha Pundlik, the district deputy commissioner of animal husbandry, emphasized the importance of this routine check to keep track of animals and prevent illegal activities. The initiative aims to create a centralized and transparent system for livestock management, enhancing the welfare of animals and ensuring ethical and legal livestock trade. ✅ What does this mean for farmers and livestock owners? 1) Regulated Movement: Ensures animals are moved and traded legally. 2) Enhanced Tracking: Keeps detailed records of animal history and health. 3) Veterinary Access: Only tagged animals will receive medical treatment. 4) Legal Trade: Prevents illegal slaughter and promotes ethical practices. We would love to hear your thoughts on this new regulation! Do you think it will effectively manage livestock and curb illegal activities? How might this impact your day-to-day operations? "I wish I had known better" This was the regret of Miss Jane, a livestock farming enthusiast. She had considered starting a mini or homestead livestock farm and sought advice from friends, but their responses discouraged her. Driven by her passion to improve the protein supply in her community, she decided to pursue her dream. Jane turned to the internet for information on sheep and goat farming. After immersing herself in extensive research, she decided to start her farm. She purchased livestock from the market based on positive testimonials, planned to feed them primarily forages and bean cobs, used a free-range system with minimal monitoring, and practiced self-medication based on local farmers' advice. Despite her investment of time and money, Jane faced losses, slow growth, and disease outbreaks. Frustrated, she consulted a veterinary expert, who advised: "Running a livestock farm requires more than online research. It involves seeking expert advice from the start, providing the right feed, choosing good breeds, and continuous veterinary support." Jane realized her passion had clouded her judgment. The veterinarian encouraged her, saying it wasn't too late to improve her practices for better results. "Okay, Doctor, I’m in." Are you ready to unlock the secrets to increased farm production and effective management? DM me "farm health" and let’s discuss how to achieve your farm goals. #Livestockmanagement #Animalcare #livestockfarmer #Animalproduction #bvlc #veterinarians

Resistance to anthelmintics is a real problem in the UK. Far too often in the past SQP’s and some Vets have prescribed anthelmintics, with little or no knowledge of whether livestock have a parasite burden or not. Pasturetec invested in a Micron Agritech Faecal Egg Count test kit through Bimeda this year to enable our AMTRA Ltd qualified registered animal health advisors (formerly SQP’s) to provide faecal egg count results within 30 minutes, or less, either in farm or in store, after a business case was put forward by our Willington Store Manager and SQP, Stacey Foster. Since we commenced testing earlier this year, the number of low results have been significant, enabling our livestock customers to treat less and only when required, saving them money and protecting actives. Our customers are now more used to being asked whether they need to treat when requesting anthelmintics, applying a more technical rationale, backed by data through the faecal egg count test, which has to be the way forward. We also offer a livestock weighing service and encourage farms to invest in weighing equipment to monitor liveweight gain, helping to highlight whether livestock are on track, whilst highlighting any nutritional or parasite issue earlier as a management tool. We offer tests on farm, in store and via the post as well as providing technical support for weighing equipment of any brand. Using a targeted selective treatment approach to anthelmintic use and track livestock performance through data driven solutions has been received very positively across our customer base. #testbeforeyoutreat #protectingactives www.pasturetec.co.uk

It's inspiring to see our young dedicated AHB Suraksha farmers 🐄 taking proactive steps to ensure the health of their cattle and the quality of milk produced. Using dewormers is not just a good practice; it’s essential for sustaining healthy livestock. Deworming helps in: 🟢 Maintaining milk production 🟢 Improving overall cattle health 🟢 Reducing veterinary costs. In India, the lack of deworming practices can lead to significant losses: 🔴 Milk production can drop by up to 25% 🔴 Cattle health deteriorates, leading to higher mortality rates 🔴 Increased veterinary costs due to untreated parasitic infections. By incorporating deworming into regular cattle care routines, farmers can ensure better productivity and sustainability. #CattleHealth #DairyFarming #SustainableAgriculture #Deworming #MilkQuality #AHBSuraksha
