It’s #InternationalWomensDay, a day that’s celebrated globally to commemorate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. So at Pass It On, we’re putting the spotlight on women and the women in our communities who are #homeless. #Homelessness is dangerous for all, but women face unique, more challenging and harsher realities. Homeless women may experience gender-based violence and abuse at higher rates than homeless men. They may also face additional challenges related to reproductive health and childcare responsibilities. Additionally, the support given to women tend to be limited as homeless women are often missing from rough sleeping counts because they tend to be less visible than male rough sleepers due to the risk of violence on the streets, in a lot of cases preferring to seek shelter in cafes, transport hubs or other places rather than bedding down outside.
