Over one million children and youth experiencing homelessness are enrolled in public schools in the United States. They face many educational challenges due to high mobility, poverty, and trauma. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (McKinney-Vento Act) is in place to remove barriers to attending school and receiving supportive services. The McKinney-Vento Act defines homelessness as children and youth who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. This can mean living in shelters, motels, or even sharing housing due to hardship. Some are in cars, parks, abandoned buildings or substandard housing, without a stable place to sleep. When organizations like Star Gospel Mission can provide support services, like transitional housing, these students have a better and brighter chance of success. In recognizing the importance of safe and secure housing for children, it becomes critical to address homelessness and housing instability to ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive. A safe and secure home environment is crucial for the well-being and success of children. A stable home provides a foundation for their physical, emotional, and cognitive development. By investing in organizations like TPCS that offer affordable housing initiatives and supportive services, we can create environments where children can reach their full potential and contribute to the strength of our communities, thus breaking the cycle of homelessness. #endhomelessness #essexcounty #homelessshelter
