🌷🗳️ Celebrating Diversity in Tradition and Civic Duty 🗳️🌷 This week presents a unique confluence of events that underscore the rich tapestry of our lives: Easter Sunday's reflections, April Fools' Day's laughter, and the pivotal act of voting on Tuesday. Each of these occasions, in its own right, invites us to engage differently with the world around us. Easter Sunday is a time for renewal and gratitude, a moment to connect deeply with our values and communities. It's an opportunity for professionals to reflect on growth, both personally and within our industries. April Fools' Day reminds us of the importance of humor and lightheartedness in maintaining balance, even in the most challenging business environments. A day of jests can offer a fresh perspective and foster creativity. Vote Tuesday emphasizes our civic responsibility and the significant impact our voices can have on the future of our communities and industries. It's a call to action for every professional to participate actively in shaping the policies and leadership that govern our professional landscapes. As we navigate these days, let's embrace the lessons they offer. Let's cultivate growth, welcome new perspectives, and engage responsibly in the processes that shape our collective future. #EasterReflections #AprilFoolsCreativity #VoteResponsibly #ProfessionalGrowth #CivicEngagement

Do you have a Black Lives Matter sign in front of your house? If you have kids, do your kids know what Black Lives Matter means to you? Your sign offers a great opportunity to talk to your kids about white supremacy. Do your kids know that the police do not act in a vacuum? Fear, control and violence are part of the construction and maintenance of the structure of white supremacy in America. Our police departments grew directly out of slave patrols. They act as a critical part of the control and violence that upholds unequal and unjust outcomes for communities of color. I’m not anti-police. I’ll be the first one to call 911 in an emergency. And I have once experienced the relief and joy of knowing the police were there to protect me (I barely remember the danger, but I remember the feeling of being protected - it was amazing). I also know that involving the police means that anyone who looks like me is in greater danger. I know that anyone with mental health difficulties, autism, or other developmental deficits, is in greater danger. And I believe it doesn’t have to be this way. I believe if we can talk to each other and our kids about race, we can build better, safer police departments and a better, safer country. I know that talking to your kids about race can be difficult; I’d like to help. I’m offering a developmentally appropriate guide for talking to kids from 0-18 about race. You can get it for free here. https://lnkd.in/gVt5GwGP

Entering the Thanksgiving Holiday with Reflection and Action 🦃🍂 As we approach Thanksgiving, a time for reflection and gathering, it's important to also reflect on the deeper history behind this holiday. For many, Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks, but for enslaved Black Americans, it was a reminder of forced labor—serving those who celebrated the holiday and being denied the opportunity to partake in the festivities. In light of this history, let’s also reflect on the need for racial equity and economic justice. The legacy of systemic racism and oppression still impacts marginalized communities, particularly Black families, today. Here's a quote that speaks to the ongoing work needed for true justice: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them." – Albert Einstein Let’s also acknowledge and support organizations working to eliminate disparities and create pathways for equity in our communities. Together, we can ensure a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. 🌍 #ThanksgivingReflection #RacialJustice #SystemicRacism #Equity #SocialJustice #SupportMarginalizedCommunities #EconomicJustice #HealthEquity

Black Girl Day Off – National Today nationaltoday.com Today, on Black Girl Day Off, I embrace the opportunity to reflect on my journey with a neurosparkly brain—a term I use to describe my neurodivergent mind. This path has been both unique and enlightening, presenting challenges that have ultimately strengthened my Human Resources acumen, enriched my parenting approach, transformed my adult relationships, and propelled my national speaking career. In the realm of Human Resources, my distinctive way of thinking has allowed me to approach problems with creativity and empathy. Understanding the diverse needs of individuals has become second nature, enabling me to foster more inclusive and supportive work environments. As a parent, embracing my neurodivergence has taught me patience and adaptability. It has deepened my connection with my children, allowing me to support their growth with compassion and insight. In my adult relationships, viewing the world through a neurosparkly lens has encouraged me to appreciate different perspectives. This appreciation has led to deeper, more meaningful connections with others. Moreover, my experiences have inspired me to share my story on a national stage, advocating for neurodiversity and mental health awareness. What some might have seen as obstacles, I have transformed into opportunities—turning lemons into lemonade. On this Black Girl Day Off, I encourage all Black women to prioritize their mental well-being. Our unique experiences and challenges are valid, and taking time to nurture ourselves is essential. Let us continue to break the stigma surrounding mental health in our communities and support one another in our journeys. If you're interested in learning more about Black Girl Day Off and its significance, you can visit the National Today page linked above.

I just spoke with a woman who works in media and graphic design for some very high powered folks. She told me that recent events have shifted her work entirely from inclusion and diversity efforts to “adding more white people” into her photos and graphics. The word “diversity” itself is being stripped from corporate efforts and programming, after a huge rise in interest in 2020, during the BLM/George Floyd protests. How quickly we forget! … While white and Christian supremacists continue to dominate and lead the GOP, how can we possibly abandon our efforts to envision and embrace and create: “a world that works for everyone”? Join me Monday on "Moment of Truth with Ami Chen Mills” at 6 pm Pacific Time (livestream at www.KSQD.org or find the podcast later) … as I dialogue with my dear friend and colleague Alvin Dawkins about: Why it is essential to continue to overcome and heal from racism, and how we can do so from spiritual grounding and an understanding of the “formless.” Here’s a YouTube video of a past conversation with Alvin about why there is often hesitancy to discuss and really look at these issues on the part of white folks (much less, commit to doing so over time!); why white folks might be “afraid” of consequences they imagine in their minds; how many people of color really feel; and how the Black spiritual tradition is about social justice. What does it mean to both see and "not see” color at the same time? To understand our true nature and also recognize the inequalities that still exist and can be corrected for the well being of all of us? https://lnkd.in/ggaJNarF
