I love the idea that Emma speaks about how a love for Latin and language helped her... understand 'people'. And that has helped her across her career as a leader. One can succeed in so many different ways. And finding work that you love really allows you to operate from a place of strength. And that is so wonderful. So many of us, may not have 'master-plans'. Particularly 'master-plans' that are strategic. In fact the future is changing so fast, that having a master-plan will become less and less relevant. What will be relevant? Excellence and learning. Excellence unlocks new opportunities. And its hard to have excellence unless we can find ways to enjoy what we do. Hence, the start... discovering what really drives you. And then giving it your all.

Interesting career lessons from Dave Ricks, Eli Lilly and Company Lilly and Company CEO Hardwired capabilities (aka. soft skills) are more important than industry knowledge and experience. Ricks is an example of a non scientist excelling in a scientific company based on some great qualities: bias for speed and sense of urgency, managerial courage, ability to work with people.
