One week #laVieEnCloudNative at #KubeCon in Paris and basically everyone was all about AI 🤖 However, there were also so many hidden champions deserving of our attention! 🏆 Data Pipelines on WebAssembly With the recent release of WASI 0.2.0 WASM components are able to exchange data in nanoseconds which is a great foundation for building flexible and resource efficient data pipelines for highly specialized and resource constrained environments. 🏆 Immutable Operating Systems 10 years after its inception Kubernetes has become the engine behind essentially all Big Data and AI applications but it’s still kinda hard to operate. Being deployed on top of an operating system and (sometimes) VMs it adds a layer of complexity that must be managed by system- and platform operators. Linux distros like „gardenlinux“, „kairos“ or „Talos“ are immutable, which reduces attack vectors, offer capabilities that make day-2 operations (like patch management) easier and thus form a solid foundation for Kubernetes to run upon. 🏆 Kubernetes Management Even though K8s is pretty cool, no one really uses it just for the sake of it! The applications running on top of kubernetes add value to peolples life’s. So everything that makes kubernetes management a chore of the past is pretty amazing and helps us to focus on building great applications! Huge shoutout to folks at #spectrocloud and everyone who is working on making Kubernetes operations simple and secure! I just arrived at home, but I‘m already looking forward to next years KubeCon in London! With ❤️ from #SiegburgValley

I’m pleased to share the latest from the CI/CD Observability Special Interest Group (SIG), in a special post for #KubeCon NA 2024! 📢 🎉 We formally founded the SIG about nine months ago under the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF), and it has since achieved important milestones worth celebrating. 🍾 This SIG is tasked with standardizing on #observability for software release pipelines, as part of #OpenTelemetry’s open specification and semantic conventions. We’ve made good progress, with a few OpenTelemetry Extension Proposals (OTEP) already approved and merged, and more to come. On this #CNCF post Adriel Perkins and I outline the need, the role of the SIG, the milestones and roadmap. If you’re a release engineer, a DevOps or a developer suffering from flaky tests or broken pipelines, or a #CICD tool developer, don’t miss this post. It's been an amazing journey from an original OTEP I submitted a couple of years ago up to this official SIG and vibrant community. We now have contributors from observability vendors such as Elastic Dynatrace Grafana Labs and honeycomb.io, from hyperscalers like Google Microsoft and IBM, and from end-users such as ANZ Discover Financial Services NVIDIA Liatrio and Axis Communications. We also maintain fruitful collaboration with adjacent #opensource communities such as the Continuous Delivery Foundation CDEvents Eiffel community and Jenkins. This is an opportunity for us to thanks the individuals who contributed to this huge effort: Yuri Shkuro Andrea Frittoli Emil Bäckmark Magnus Bäck Liudmila Molkova Christophe Kamphaus 🚀 Giordano Ricci Giovanni Liva Iván Fernández Calvo Armin Ruech Robb Kidd Pablo Chacin Alexandra Konrad Alexander Wert Joao G. DJ Gregor Andrzej Stencel 👨💻 Kristof Kowalski Michael Sarahan Trask Stalnaker Daniel Gomez Blanco Joshua Suereth And last but definitely not least, Adriel Perkins on his tireless leadership 👏 Adriel and I won't be at KubeCon next week to share in person, but you've got it all right in this post. Do comment and let us know what you think, and if you're passionate about the topic and want to help shape this open specification, feel free to join our slack channel and calls (all the details are on the blog post). https://lnkd.in/dr4W96c4

Exploring Red Hat’s latest projects for Kubernetes support 🦾 We’re live at #KubeCon! Dig into Red Hat’s latest with projects #Podman, #Buildah, and #Skopeo with Mark Russell, principal product manager at Red Hat, and Stevan Le Meur, principal product manager of developer tools at Red Hat, as they join #theCUBE at #KubeCon NA. “Podman is an interactive container engine with the ability to run #containers without any root or elevated privileges. My favorite thing is a feature called quadlet, which allows you to take pods and containers and turn them into system services with a dead simple text file that you could just copy from machine to machine. Buildah is a tool that focuses on building container images. It's very suitable to containerized pipelines, and Skopeo, which is a bit of a Swiss army tool that works with container images and remote registries,” Russell shares. Le Meur joins the conversation, saying, “With Podman desktop, we built on top to provide a nice user interface to work both with containers and Kubernetes. It’s a desktop application that runs on Mac. It's for application developers and it abstracts away all the configuration and setup of different tools needed to work with these technologies. It has everything you need in order to work with containers.” 📺 Tune in for more insights! https://lnkd.in/gm6gfw4N Rob Strechay Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF)

A couple of months ago, we introduced you to the concept of container orchestration. To recap, container orchestration is the process of automating container operations throughout their entire lifecycle, including provisioning, deployment, scaling, auto-recovery, isolation, networking, etc. Why do you need it? 💡 Because the more containers you have, the more time and resources you will need to manage each one of them manually. Without container orchestration, building highly complex programs out of multiple applications would be much more complicated and cumbersome. One of the most popular tools is Kubernetes (or k8s), an open source system for orchestrating containerized workloads and services. Originally created at Google, it was open-sourced in 2015. Since then, it has gathered a vast and vibrant community of users and contributors who are continuously working on and adding new features to the platform. ➡️Kubernetes offers a more efficient way to manage multiple containers and eliminate time-consuming tasks. In short, it makes the lives of software developers and data engineers much easier. How, you may wonder?
