🌍 GREEN TEAM champions sustainability in sports events! On December 4-5, ICSSPE joined fellow partners in Portugal for the latest Erasmus+ GREEN TEAM project meeting. The first day featured a sustainable and inclusive sports event in Gondomar, organized as part of the GREEN TEAM project. Activities included volleyball, table tennis, boccia, and walking football, all designed to foster community and sustainability. The event implemented several eco-conscious measures: 🔸 Eco-friendly transport options 🔸 Reusable water bottles with convenient refill stations 🔸 Waste separation for effective recycling 🔸 Healthy, sustainable snacks for participants 🔸 An energy-efficient venue powered by solar panels On the second day, GREEN TEAM partners convened to discuss upcoming project milestones. Key topics included the launch of online courses aimed at equipping sports federations and organizers with tools to integrate sustainable practices into their events. As part of the Steering Committee and Work Package (2) leader, ICSSPE took part in the mid-term deliberation that reflected on the deliverables already concluded and discussed ways to better shape upcoming deliverables such as the E-learning platform and the manual for sustainable and inclusive sport events. ➡️ Learn more about the GREEN TEAM project: https://lnkd.in/e2h5nwu7 Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya Ala de Nun'Alvares de Gondomar Petit Pas aps União das Freguesias de Gondomar (S. "Why haven't I heard your voice in the events?" I have skipped many sports events that I have been traditionally "voice-working". In some of these I have been the "voice" for decades. For doing this, I have several reasons: 1. Own well-being & family Being an accouncer for a one-day event, is usually not only for that one day. Preparations, fixing family timetables, travelling and installing, uninstalling & maintaining sound systems takes at least the whole weekend or many times even more. This time is away from the family and requires sacrifices from them also. Long event day takes it share and since I am not that young anymore, recovery needs also more time. I have actually started to enjoy weekends at home. 2. Profession From 11/2023 I have been living my dream as a Head Of Product Development for Swix poles & ski waxes. The work is hectic & delightfully challenging requiring a lot of commuting between 🇫🇮 & 🇳🇴 and some occational travels to, for example, our pole factory in Lithuania. Therefore it is practically impossible to commit for the events months ahead. 3. I enjoy sports myself I made, a kind of a, turnaround in my life ~5 years ago and thanks to that I have found the joy of sports and it has become both physical & mental lifeblood for me. As much as I enjoy announcing, I enjoy being a participant. Well, why do I still do some announcing? I enjoy a lot to create good spirit and I know I am quite good at it. Being an announcer is living in a moment and all other worries are forgotten for a while. Probably this was the reason why I started to do it. I also enjoy being a part of the sports community, which I consider as my second family. In some events, like Vuokatin Aateli Race, I have an opportunity to combine all my important aspects and for this kind of events it is easy to say yes. As long as it fits to the schedule 😅

At the 2024 SportFest in Poreč, I had the opportunity to participate in a round table discussion on the "Impact of Sport Events in Croatia." Sports events have a multifaceted economic impact, generating both direct and indirect benefits. A prominent example of this was during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where Croatia's historic achievement of reaching the final—ultimately finishing as runners-up to France—triggered a significant increase in global interest. The term “Croatia” was searched on Google more frequently during that period than in the previous five years combined. This surge in visibility contributed to what would become Croatia’s most successful tourist season in 2019, demonstrating the powerful and far-reaching influence of sporting success on the country’s international profile. Croatia’s sporting achievements not only bring attention to its athletes but also highlight the country’s natural beauty, placing it in the global media spotlight. Despite this, Croatia has yet to fully capitalize on these successes through a strategic, long-term approach. Currently, there is no comprehensive sports strategy in place, leaving the country without a cohesive framework to harness the potential economic, social, cultural, and environmental benefits that could arise from its sporting triumphs. Many nations would greatly value the opportunity to leverage such international sporting success, but Croatia must transition from reactive, ad hoc initiatives to a more deliberate and forward-looking strategy. A shift in mindset is necessary—one that embraces a long-term, visionary approach. By developing a national sports strategy, Croatia could maximize the benefits of its sporting success, fostering not only economic growth but also broader societal gains. It is imperative that future actions be grounded in sustainable principles that address social, cultural, and environmental considerations. The time for change is now, and it requires both vision and commitment. Last week brought a visit to Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, where a partner meeting of the 𝘼𝘾𝙏𝙄𝙊𝙉+ project took place. The city left a lasting impression on me, particularly with its fascinating medieval stone architecture. Its proximity to the Baltic Sea and the delicious local cuisine adds to its charm. 🏰🌊 Taking advantage of this opportunity, I managed to have a valuable conversation with representatives of the Estonian Ministry of Culture. Our discussion focused on the implementation of good governance in local sports organizations. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Estonia has included international presence as one of the four key priorities in its sports development strategy. What does this priority encompass? ⤵️ 🔹Estonian athletes as regular participants in international competitions; 🔹Hosting major sports events, including the Biathlon World Championships in 2027; 🔹The presence of Estonians in international sports structures. I find this last element particularly relevant and worthy of emulation in Poland. Polish officials aiming to join international structures or already working in international organisations would benefit from getting substantive and organizational support and that, in consequence, would significantly increase Poland's voice in the global sports debate. I am grateful that conversations with our esteemed partners keep providing new insights and inspire further efforts towards the professionalization and improvement of sports organization in Poland and Europe. 🇪🇺🏅
