The Gruba Kaśka water filtration plant in Warsaw exemplifies the potential of nature-based solutions (NBS). Such principles can be applied to aquaculture, water management, and restoration projects, showcasing how natural systems contribute to resilient and sustainable infrastructure—core to EnviroStrat’s work. By leveraging freshwater mussels’ natural filtering abilities, the plant ensures clean drinking water, demonstrating how nature can be integrated into modern infrastructure to enhance sustainability and efficiency. This approach, which reduces the need for chemical interventions, mirrors our focus on utilising ecosystem services to address environmental challenges. Wouldn’t it be great to explore such idea in Aotearoa? Read more about it here: https://lnkd.in/gzzWXCRW

Our partners in Southern Spain, AlVelAl, have once again (!) received verification under Preferred by Nature's Ecosystem Restoration Standard! Since its foundation in 2015, AlVelAl has been at the forefront of pioneering natural restoration and regenerative agriculture in south-eastern Spain 🇪🇸 The AlVelAl territory spans over 1 million hectares and aims to restore more than 10,000 hectares of natural forests by 2026, creating a vast green corridor to support biodiversity. 🌈 In addition to this ambitious restoration goal, AlVelAl also manage 3 successful business cases: La Almendrehesa , which commercialises almonds and dried fruits, and Habitat , known for its extra virgin olive oil. Additionally, ALVELAL Foods offers various conscious products produced within the same territory, all rooted in regenerative agriculture. 👨🌾 The Preferred by Nature audit involved field tests and interviews, affirming AlVelAl’s ongoing efforts and highlighting areas for continuous improvement. This rigorous process is crucial to ensure that the project remains on track to achieve its long-term goals. 🚀 We are immensely proud of AlVelAl's continued success and its impactful contributions to holistic landscape restoration - and we remain dedicated to supporting their transformative journey towards creating resilient ecosystems. #LandscapeRestoration #SustainableFarming #RegenerativeAgriculture

Did you know that the GreenShades project also promotes urban biodiversity? 🌿🐝 In addition to providing shade and purifying the air, these innovative structures create micro-habitats for pollinators like bees and butterflies, contributing to the preservation of these important ecosystems. 🌼🦋 Another interesting fact is that the installation of GreenShades in Valladolid was inspired by similar solutions in Mediterranean cities that have used vegetation for centuries to combat intense heat. This approach not only improves the quality of life but also preserves local architectural traditions. 🏛✨ And it doesn’t stop there! GreenShades are made from sustainable materials and feature sensors that monitor weather conditions, adjusting irrigation as needed, ensuring each plant gets exactly the amount of water it needs without waste. 💧🌱 So, next time you stroll through one of these revitalized areas, remember that you’re enjoying an innovation that is both a nod to the past and a step towards a greener future! 🌳💚 #UrbanGreening #GreenInnovation #SustainableCities #UrbanBiodiversity #ClimateAction

🌿 Creating a Sustainable Microclimate in Nosara, Guanacaste 🌿 In Nosara, Guanacaste, the heat can be intense, but with the integration of advanced water misting systems, we’ve transformed the natural environment. 🌳 Beneath the shade of a majestic Guanacaste tree, we’ve created a cool and healthy microclimate that not only benefits the ecosystem but also enhances plant growth and embodies the concept of biophilia at its finest. 💧 Every day, the system delicately mists the area, creating the perfect atmosphere for vegetation to thrive, while providing a refreshing escape from the high temperatures. This approach is not only visually striking, but it also improves the quality of life for both the ecosystem and those who enjoy it.A special thanks to the architectural firm for sharing the vision of developing a truly unique project in Latin America, focused on water sustainability. 🌱 Together, we are setting a new standard for environmental harmony in the region. 🌱 Biophilia is more than a concept; it’s a way to create spaces that inspire, restore, and reconnect us with the natural world. #Biophilia #Sustainability #WaterSustainability #Microclimate #Innovation #SustainableDevelopment #Ecosystem #Nosara Benjamin Garcia Saxe

As a systemic designer for systems change you have to be an #activist with good arguments and alternative calculations. This is happening in my area in #Greece. My self-made job (volunteer) is to get economic arguments together to prevent destruction by industrial "progress". In June, when I get back in Peloponnese, we will discuss further who we can line up for power... THE INTERNATIONAL RESOURCE CONFERENCE "THE INDUSTRIAL WATERPROOF" SEAS OF CHANGE Our most honored friends, After the unacceptable state decision to expand the fish farms in Kynuria by 34 times, our association "Eastern Arcadia Tourist Accommodation Association" together with the Arcadian Village Cultural Association and the Southern Kynuria Tourist Accommodation Association participated in the International Conference held in Poros on 18-20/04 on the topic of industrial fish farming (POAC). The conference was organized by the Katheti organization in collaboration with the Rauch Foundation and the Global Salmon Farming Resistance (GSFR). Representatives of clubs, municipalities and organizations from 14 countries attended the conference, the mayors of Poros, Trozinia-Methana, Epidavros and Northern Kynuria and the MEP Petros Kokkalis. The conference mentioned the serious problems present in areas where POACs are being developed and the struggles that have been taken place and are being carried out in other parts of the world against their spread. It was emphasized that fish farms do not comply with the appropriate conditions (p. x distances from coasts, regular movement, control of food and medicines) pollute the environment, poison the sea and destroy posidon meadows. It was also pointed out that the tourist areas in which they are intended to develop POAS will be irreparably damaged and that with a goal only for profit, companies that manufacture and exploit fish farms violate the laws and are indifferent to the environment. The speakers then stressed the need for MARINE SPATIAL PLANNING to save areas of natural beauty and tourist interest. It emerged from the conference that the environmental studies on which the state relies for approval are funded by the investors themselves, that to produce 1 kg of fish we have to spend 1.2- 1.6 kg of wild fish in fish meal, while many antibiotics are given to fish and some of these are prohibited like formaldehyde. The indignation of the conferences was received by the secretaries-general of the Ministries of Rural Development and Tourism who, however, assured that they would transfer it to the higher competent authorities of government. In their intervention our clubs emphasized the need to protect the beautiful coastline of the Arcadian Riviera, they also emphasized the problems that have already been presented by the existing three small fish farms in the area and agreed that government scales come to our area to have immediate knowledge of it topic. Yours sincerely, Xenios Kounouros #Greece #environment #Mediterranean
