Today is World Refugee Day. Please read these facts and consider if you can help. May I suggest also that in 2 weeks time when you vote, you consider the impact on refugees as part of your decision making process. If you are voting for a party that: 1. Wants to cut the Foreign Aid Budget 2. Encourages sales of arms to countries with a bad human rights record 3. Refuses to provide safe routes to apply for asylum for the relative few of the 100 million refugees who want to come to the UK. 4. Will not provide a quick and transparent asylum application system 5. Will not work with other countries around the world to ease this problem that is only getting worse then you are making this problem worse. Please consider helping in other ways too. Remember, but for the luck of the draw, you could be a refugee through no fault of your own. https://lnkd.in/eFPfNvDv

In 2023, the top region for requests for help was South and Central Asia (SCA), with 5,445 individuals seeking assistance; 70% of these requests came from Afghans located in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Türkiye due to the ongoing impacts of Taliban rule in Afghanistan. Rainbow Railroad categorizes individuals requesting help into the following status types within their country of request: citizen, permanent resident, temporary resident, no legal status, asylum seeker, and UNHCR registered refugee. This information is important for informing our advocacy with governments and multilateral agencies, as we are able to identify the specific barriers our clients face when navigating the global asylum system. MAKE PEACE FOR REFUGEES As of May 2024, more than 120 million people around the world have been forcibly displaced due to persecution, conflict, violence, and human rights violations. This figure represents one of our time's most significant humanitarian crises, a crisis that cannot be ignored. The Facts: 43.4 million refugees – individuals forced to flee their country, often with nothing but the clothes on their backs, seeking safety from violence and persecution. 63.3 million internally displaced people – families and communities uprooted within their own countries, living in fear and uncertainty as conflict and instability tear apart their homes. 6.9 million asylum seekers – those desperately awaiting legal protection and safety, stuck in limbo as their lives hang in the balance. 5.8 million people in need of international protection, with the majority fleeing Venezuela, driven by economic collapse, political turmoil, and humanitarian disaster. (UN Refugee Agency) War, violence, and persecution not only rob people of their homes but also their health. Refugees often have limited access to essential medical services, leaving them vulnerable to malnutrition, untreated chronic illnesses, and trauma-related mental health issues. Women and children are especially at risk, with many facing sexual violence, inadequate maternal healthcare, and the spread of preventable diseases. This is more than just a crisis of displacement—it’s a human rights crisis. Every person, regardless of where they are from or what circumstances they face, deserves the chance to live with dignity, safety, and hope. #IMGunity | #MakePeaceForRefugees

📣 OUT NOW – Report on the Third Global Consultation on the Health of Refugees and Migrants 📣 I am pleased to announce the release of the report on the Third Global Consultation on the Health of Refugees and Migrants, which in June last year gathered more than 250 representatives of 50 Member States and observers, UN agencies and other intergovernmental organizations and non-State actors, including the refugee and migrant communities, and led to a significant milestone - the adoption of the Rabat Declaration by 49 Member States and observers. This new report not only summarizes the critical discussions at the consultation but also provides actionable steps for consideration by governments, UN agencies, and partners. 👉 If translated into action, those steps can create inclusive, responsive and sustainable health systems that address the #health needs and rights of #refugees, #migrants and host communities alike. The Sudanese refugee crisis is one of the most pressing humanitarian challenges today. Over 1.8 million Sudanese refugees have fled to neighboring countries like Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Egypt due to ongoing conflict and instability. Chad alone hosts 640,000 refugees, with women and children making up nearly 70% of the displaced population. Urgent international support is needed to address critical needs such as shelter, healthcare, and education. Let’s work together to ensure their voices are heard and their rights are protected. #SudanCrisis #Refugees #HumanitarianAid #Displacement #WomenAndChildren #Chad #SouthSudan #UNHCR #GlobalSolidarity #RefugeeSupport
