Age and experience are important aspects of Leadership, and Charles Coristine has demonstrated this, along with objectivity. As job opportunities increase and skilled individuals become less readily available, we may find ourselves confronting the issue of mismatched roles. Employers often overlook the broader picture during recruitment processes, which is why external support, such as Psychometric Testing, is sometimes necessary. However, with greater objectivity, they might stop focusing on Leaders with experience in specific industries and instead prioritise Leadership experience itself. A Leader in finance, for instance, can transition to the Food and Beverage industry, as Charles Coristine has demonstrated. Similarly, a Leader from the Food and Beverage sector could successfully manage Automotive companies. Strong Leaders possess Cross-Functional Leadership skills acquired over time, which can be effectively applied across a range of industries, often leading to better outcomes largely due to their objective approach. #Leadership #Business #CrossFunctionalLeadership

𝑳𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏 𝑻𝒐 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑴𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒅 𝑮𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒑 Here is an example of a Leader who didn't listen. 👇 👇 👇 The previous CEO of Red Lobster did not listen to his advisors. The leaders in his organization told him the promotion he was putting together was ill-advised and costly but he launched it anyway and made the promotion permanent. He also cut an ill-advised side deal with a vendor that negatively affected their bottom line. Both of these decisions cost Red Lobster and the vendor millions of dollars. This proves 2 things: 🔴 Just because you are a Leader doesn't always mean you are right. 🔴 When things go wrong as a Leader you shoulder the blame. Like this story if you value team input! Restaurants are hitting higher revenue than everywhere which is good news given economic pressures in other areas, however, the cost of labor at Happy Joe's 🍕 is steadily rising alongside profits. That doesn't mean there aren't new opportunities in franchising, rather it means that companies need to make sure their key roles are filled by high-quality teams who understand the importance of customer service as an extension of hospitality and brand building. #Restaurant #Leadership #RestaurantBusiness

LONG READ/BIG GRATITUDE: You know how I feel about Chipotle Mexican Grill if you've followed any aspect of our work at Creative Artists Agency Marketing, Observatory and now Superconnector Studios. While all of our clients are tied for first, if two of the most innovative, talented and trusting CMOs I've had the pleasure of knowing, Mark Crumpacker and Chris Brandt had not been part of my career arc, then that career arc would neither have been what it has been nor be what it is. And I'd have two fewer friends. Now, CMOs, their teams and their agency partners don't get great work and great results without great CEOs. Mark and Chris are no exception. Chipotle Founder & CEO Steve Ells gave us a story to tell through his vision and his support of American family farmers. And this week's much-written-about Brian Niccol gave us the modern, digital-first version of the same company without sacrificing a bit of its quality, character and soul. And, unlike most new CEOs and CMOs, Brian Niccol and Chris Brandt gave Chipotle's existing partners a shot, meaning us. Creating the follow-up to "Back To The Start," "A Future Begins" with Chris, Stephanie Sotelo Perdue, Linda Knight, Carly Allen and our respective teams was another career highlight. So, to all of us marveling at Chipotle's 773% stock growth during Brian's tenure, take a deeper look at the thousands of people who felt supported by Brian and did their best work as a result. I'm one of them. As one guy marveling that I got to be a small part of this epic run -- with outsize impact on our business, too -- I'm going to redouble my efforts to be the type of colleague, collaborator, and dare I say leader like those I've encountered at Chipotle. Last, congratulations to the longtime leaders stepping up and into Brian's role: Scott Boatwright, MBA and Jack Hartung. In celebration, I'll be ordering the usual via the app tonight. 🌯 -- -- p.s. Hell yes I scraped together some pennies to grab some Starbucks stock, and in the words of Ferris Buehler: "If you have the means, I highly recommend it." I'm betting on Brian Niccol with gratitude for the times he bet on me.
Earlier this week, we announced the appointment of Scott Boatwright, MBA to Interim CEO and Jack Hartung’s decision to forgo retirement and remain with the organization indefinitely as President of Strategy, Finance and Supply Chain to ensure a smooth transition given Brian Niccol’s departure. We are immensely grateful for Brian’s leadership over the last six years. The five key strategies we put in place years ago have helped us win today while we grow our future and that will not change. Our brand and our organization are strong, and we have the right leadership in place to continue to drive our business forward and deliver on our purpose of Cultivating a Better World. “We have a world-class organization full of talented leaders who are passionate about our brand and purpose and excited for the long-term opportunity to grow to 7,000 restaurants in North America and expand internationally." - Scott Boatwright, MBA

A Story of Toxic Leadership or Great Leadership from McDonald’s? In the 1950s, Dick and Mac McDonald built a small restaurant that was all about quality, simplicity and pride in their craft. They called it "McDonald’s"—and to them, it was more than just a business; it was their legacy. Then came Ray Kroc, a milkshake machine salesman with a vision for something much bigger. He saw potential and persuaded the McDonald brothers to let him franchise their idea nationwide. They agreed, trusting Kroc to expand their dream. But as the empire grew, so did Kroc’s need for control. Eventually, he bought the brothers out, took all the credit and erased their role in the story. The handshake deal that was meant to secure the brothers a lifetime royalty? It was never put in writing, costing them billions—and stripping them of the legacy they built. Here’s the real question: - Could Kroc have achieved the same or even greater success by honouring the McDonald brothers’ contributions? - Did he need to push them aside to make McDonald’s a global powerhouse? - Or did chasing profits and limelight justify stepping on those who started it all? As leaders and individuals we all face these choices. Are we building a legacy that celebrates the people who helped you—or are you willing to push them aside to for the fame and fortune? #LeadershipReflections #LegacyMatters #EthicalLeadership #McDonaldsStory
