Today, our team had the privilege of leading a panel conversation at the virtual conference "Menopause 2.0" hosted by Women of Wearables. The insightful panel discussion, "Demystifying and Embracing Menopause with Knowledge and Solutions," was both enlightening and inspiring. This event underscored the importance of education, awareness and innovative solutions in supporting individuals through this pivotal life stage. Key takeaways included: 1. The critical role of personalized care in managing menopause symptoms. 2. The impact of digital health platforms in providing accessible and effective solutions. 3. The power of community and knowledge-sharing in destigmatizing menopause. We are excited to integrate these insights into our platform and continue leading the charge in hormone health innovation in Canada. A huge thank you to #WomenofWearables for organizing such a valuable event and to all the speakers for their expertise. 💡 Thoughts on FemTech: Let’s Talk Menopause Solutions 💡 As conversations around women's health grow louder, there’s still a persistent gap in solutions for menopause—a phase that affects half of the population but often feels like a medical afterthought. Many women report struggling to find quality resources, leaving them to manage everything from night sweats to severe mood swings on their own. Now, some innovative FemTech companies are stepping up to tackle this gap head-on. Here are a few promising approaches: 🌟 Personalised Health Platforms: Apps like Peppy offer tailored menopause support, including expert advice and access to specialists. By making real, relevant support accessible on-demand, women get empowered with the information and care they need, when they need it. 🌟Hormone-Free Products: Joylux, Inc, a non-invasive, hormone-free device, uses red-light technology to improve pelvic floor health. It’s a small change with a big impact—improving quality of life in ways that could prevent future health issues and enhance daily comfort. 🌟Wearable Tech for Tracking Symptoms: With wearables like the Embr Labs, which helps regulate body temperature, women can address uncomfortable hot flashes and night sweats instantly, offering a practical solution to one of the most common symptoms of menopause. It’s exciting to see these solutions in development, but it’s also a call to action. Menopause affects productivity, mental health, and even healthcare costs—but until there’s a strong network of solutions, many women will still fall through the cracks. #FemTech #Menopause #Innovation #WomenInHealth #HealthTech

I have huge faith in femtech. It's not just changing how women experience menopause but so many other health issues that have previously been ignored or treated with barbaric and outdated tools. So far, breakthroughs in femtech have led to the development of innovative solutions for women's health concerns. From AI-powered diagnostics to wearable devices catering specifically to women, these advancements have contributed to a more personalized and effective approach to healthcare. Why menopause? The stats below speak for themselves: It is estimated that more than 450 million women worldwide have menopausal or perimenopausal symptoms. 13 million people are currently peri- or menopausal in the UK, which is equivalent to a third of the entire UK female population. 9 in 10 women were never educated about menopause. ⅓ of women going to their GP with symptoms of the menopause are being offered antidepressants In the UK, only 59% of medical schools included mandatory menopause education in their curriculum. I was disappointed to miss the Menopause 2.0 conference by Women of Wearables (wearables, health tech & femtech) but I'm sharing a stat that highlights the significant impact of menopause in the workplace: "Menopause symptoms cost billions in medical expenses and lost days of work. A Mayo Clinic study estimates $1.8 billion in lost work time per year and $26.6 billion annually when medical expenses are added in the U.S. alone." #wearabletechnology #femtech #menopauseatwork #womenshealth

Every day should be World Menopause Day! 💪 👑 In my recent OpEd for Startup Daily, published last Friday (officially World Menopause Day), I explored why digital health needs to be at the heart of how we support women through menopause. With technology like personalisation, wearables, and AI, we can deliver real-time insights and guidance—providing women with the right advice at the right time, when it suits them! (Goodbye to the 9-5 patriarchal systems of care). At Metluma, we’ve seen firsthand how these tools are making a difference. From symptom tracking to remote consultations for women on the job, even driving trucks—digital health isn’t just the future—it’s the now. But beyond the tech, it’s about raising awareness and normalising conversations around menopause every single day, not just last Friday. This isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement. Let’s ensure women feel supported, informed, and empowered all year round. #WorldMenopauseDay #DigitalHealth #MenopauseMovement #WomensHealth #Metluma #HealthTech #Empowerment Dr Nicole Avard Jarrah Eddy Nicole Papoutsis Jess Blomfield, PhD Melanie Haines (aka Dr Mel) Digital Health CRC https://lnkd.in/g9ecQZaQ

Great to be attending the 2nd RUOK Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) session this morning, organised by the Women in MedTech group. The panel discussion is raising awareness of the symptoms of menopause, how it affects the workforce and how companies and leaders can better support their employees. Further key points made include: Perimenopause is a period of 4-10 years prior to menopause (defined as no menstruation for 12 months). When estrogen levels start to decline there are a range of physical and cognitive symptoms. It’s estimated that there are 28-60 symptoms (with some researchers saying 100 different symptoms). “Everyone goes through menopause differently and their symptoms can significantly affect their performance at work”. Work places are not yet equipped to manage menopause; and there was general consensus that the subject of menopause is not adequately addressed in the workplace. Words such as “taboo”, “awkward” and “ignored” were used. The important point was made: “It’s not only a women’s issue, men need to be part of the conversation - to ensure a more supportive workplace”. The physical, psychological and cognitive experiences of menopause can significantly affect workplace productivity - as such “employers need to ensure that their workplaces are more supportive”. Ideas discussed included: workplace support groups, flexible working policies, being compassionate, “to keep having the conversation”, to have the topic on the agenda, to provide budget for the initiatives, in-house training and awareness, and to create a workplace whether subjects can be safely discussed. Thanks to the speakers for your insights: Bernadette Thomas (nee Mimmo) Georgie Drury Pat Williams Gary Zamel And thanks to Jasjit Baveja, Ph.D. for facilitating the session. All the best Glenn Glenn Carter Healthcare Professionals Group
