Pave Ahead’s Post

Discover the Durability of Concrete Roundabouts 🔍 – "Concrete pavement’s #rigidity and #durability provides superior resistance to stresses and minimizes future maintenance and associated traffic disruption." There is still over $3 billion available through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program. Roundabout construction can play a vital role in developing SS4A Action Plans. FHWA estimates that there could be as many as 500 new roundabouts constructed annually. I would not doubt the long term durability but management of traffic during construction is the challenge. Most of the 500 new roundabouts are likely retrofits of existing intersections. Routing traffic to pour and cure the concrete lanes is the challenge. The center island construction while under traffic is often the critical design element for ROW limits.
