Thrilled to share that I have completed the Additive Manufacturing Specialization from Arizona State University on Coursera! 🎉 I gained an interest in Additive Manufacturing while preparing for the CSWA-AM certification exam offered by Dassault Systèmes. To further enhance my knowledge, I started this specialization on Coursera, and my experience was fantastic. This course broadened my understanding significantly and introduced me to various technologies like fused deposition modeling, material jetting, stereolithography, powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, selective laser sintering, and binder jetting. The course covered not just the theoretical aspects but also practical applications, including creating 3D printed parts in three steps: build preparation, machine setup, and post-processing. One aspect that impressed me was how the instructor not only explained the processes and technologies but also demonstrated machine maintenance, cleaning, and laboratory etiquette. Thanks a lot to Dhruv Bhate for explaining everything with such ease and showcasing the depth, possibilities, and challenges of additive manufacturing. Congratulations to Hao-Ping Yeh who has defended his PhD titled "Multiphysics Modelling of Polymer-based Additive Manufacturing Technologies". The PhD is part of the MADE research platform MADE FAST, and is a collaboration between DTU - Technical University of Denmark and the LEGO Group. Hao-Ping has worked together with other MADE-Ph.D's in small-scale laboratories to explore and test new digital technologies. "I was immersed in multiphysics modelling for two distinct additive manufacturing processes of polymers, seeking to grasp the impact of manufacturing parameters on product quality from a physical perspective. The ultimate goal is to leverage these models to optimize manufacturing parameters, thereby minimizing defects and enhancing product quality," Hao-Ping explains. His research has contributed a comprehensive suite of predictive models focused on process exploration and parameter optimization within emerging novel additive manufacturing techniques, enabling companies to proceed from design to production in a few hours rather than several weeks or even months, as used to be the case. AM technologies allow manufacturers to make tools much faster and more flexibly using 3D printing technology. He is happy about the collaboration: "I find great satisfaction in my projects. The collaboration between the university and the company, as well as among individuals with diverse specialities, is particularly rewarding. I'm pleased with our accomplishments and the synergy we've achieved," he says. Hao-Ping now works as a postdoc Researcher at DTU, and he is currently involved in the GlobalAM project funded by the EU. "Building upon my PhD research, I'm focused on machine learning-based simulation within multiphysics modeling for additive manufacturing, particularly for hybrid materials," he adds. Future Engineers Showcasing Ingenious Automata Designs! 🔧✨ Students in Mr. Huber's and Mr. Falcone's Introduction to Engineering Design (IED) classes have been busy designing and building Automata! 🤖 These abstract self-propelled computing devices follow a predetermined sequence of operations automatically. 💡 Working in groups with a shared theme, each student created their unique Automata, handling every aspect from concept to completion. They mastered design, mathematical modeling, manufacturing, assembly, documentation, and even the 3D printing of their own cams! 🛠️📐 It's been an incredible journey of learning and creativity. Exploring New Dimensions in STEM with 3D Printing!🐉 This past month, I decided to dive into the world of 3D printing, and what a journey it’s been! As a STEM teacher, I’m always looking for ways to engage my students with hands-on learning, and 3D printing is the perfect blend of creativity and technology. I started learning how to design on Tinkercad, a fantastic platform for creating 3D models. The process of turning an idea into a tangible object has been both exciting and challenging. One of the most rewarding parts has been learning how to slice images—a critical step to prepare designs for printing. It’s amazing to see how each layer builds on the next to bring a design to life! I’m excited to bring these skills into the classroom and show my students the possibilities of 3D printing. From prototyping solutions to exploring design thinking, the opportunities are endless.
