Hope you had a wonderful Victoria Day weekend! As we return to our routines after the long weekend, it's important for small business owners to review and ensure all payroll, HR, and compliance tasks related to the public holiday are in order. Here’s a quick post-holiday checklist to help you navigate these responsibilities if you're operating in Ontario. ▶ Take time to review your payroll/bookkeeping system to ensure all statutory holiday calculations were handled correctly. ▶ Confirm that employees who qualify for public holiday pay received it correctly. This typically includes those who worked their last scheduled shift before and their first scheduled shift after the holiday. ▶ Verify that employees who worked on Victoria Day were paid their regular pay plus premium pay (1.5 times their regular rate). Exceptions may apply to certain types of employment. ▶ If an employee agreed (in writing) to work on Victoria Day, ensure they received a substitute day off with holiday pay. Maintain accurate records of hours worked, public holiday pay calculations, and any related correspondence to ensure compliance. If you have any concerns or are operating in a different province and are curious if you are paying public holiday pay in accordance with provincial legislation, give us a call. #Payroll #HR #SmallBusiness #ESA #Ontario #EmployeeRights #StatutoryHoliday

🎅 Christmas Payroll Reminder for Employers 🎅 With the festive season fast approaching, many businesses are preparing to process payroll earlier than they usually do, due to Christmas closures. But did you know that reporting the correct payment date on your FPS submission is crucial, even if you pay early? But if you’re already using our software, there’s good news: we handle this automatically within your payroll groups! Here’s why this matters: ✅ Report the correct payday (the usual contractual payday) on your FPS submission—even if you pay earlier or later. ✅ Submit the FPS on or before the contractual payday, not the date of early payment. Example: 👉 If your usual payday is 31 December, but you pay employees on 20 December, our software ensures your FPS reflects 31 December as the payday—keeping you compliant with HMRC requirements. 🎄 Enjoy a stress-free festive season knowing your payroll is in safe hands. If you’re not using our software yet, now’s the perfect time to make the switch! Contact Amin or Stuart or you would like to know more! #Payroll #HR #HMRC #Compliance #ChristmasPlanning
