In the article written by our Banjaluka correspondent Melani Isović, economic violence is highlighted as a hidden yet pervasive form of abuse that strips women in Bosnia and Herzegovina of financial independence and traps them in abusive relationships. Through controlling finances, denying access to resources, and preventing employment, perpetrators deepen victims’ dependence, leading to psychological consequences like depression and anxiety. Stories from survivors reveal the lasting impact of this abuse, as well as the challenges they face in rebuilding their lives, despite efforts from NGOs and safe houses to provide economic empowerment. Do you know- today is the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict During the armed conflict in Nepal (1996-2006), sexual violence was tragically used as a weapon by both Maoist insurgents and government forces. Despite around 300 reported cases, the true scale of the atrocities is believed to be much higher due to underreporting caused by fear, stigma, and lack of access to justice. The long-term psychological, physical, and social impacts on survivors are profound, and many continue to seek justice and reparation. The transitional justice process in Nepal has very made limited progress (and now it's almost stopped without any conclusion), underscoring the need for increased attention and support for these issues. We must advocate for comprehensive measures to address past injustices and ensure support for survivors. Let’s work together to break the silence and promote a future where such violence is never repeated. https://lnkd.in/gAMiZ_Dj #HumanRights #NepalConflict #JusticeForSurvivors #EndImpunity #GenderEquality

Daunting and Dire: Impunity, Underfunded Institutions Undermine Protection of Women and Girls From Domestic Violence in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq The Kurdistan Region of Iraq's (KR-I) authorities are failing to ensure that perpetrators of domestic violence, including harrowing cases of murder, rape, beatings and burning, are held to account, and they are imposing arbitrary restrictions on the freedoms of survivors who seek protection in the shelter system. Despite some positive legislative steps taken in the KR-I to combat domestic violence, in practice, survivors face significant obstacles in accessing protection and justice in the KR-I. The report finds a lack of political will on the part of the authorities to prosecute perpetrators of domestic violence or to offer meaningful support to women and girls who turn to the state for protection. Hamas is Lying About Women and Children’s Deaths??? Really? https://lnkd.in/dV3fv3RW I am SHOCKED 🙄….fits nicely with other Hamas truisms: “We don’t use human shields” “We didn’t rape Israeli women” “We don’t have command centers underneath hospitals or other civilian structures” “It wasn’t one of our rockets that hit the hospital” “We believe in “democracy and pluralism” https://lnkd.in/dxvCFnPw “We support women’s rights” “We are not antisemitic because only Europeans are anti-Semitic” What has struck me from the outset is the UNCANNY ability of the Palestinian Health Ministry (PHM) to publish “death tolls” within HOURS of an attack. Presumably, there is no food, no light, no internet, no freedom of movement. But they can accurately count bodies a few hours after an attack? And not only count bodies, but tell you how many children and how many women EXACTLY. What about how many MEN?? NOT a SINGLE report by the PHM includes men 🫢(mostly terrorists)……and yet, so many gullible and willfully ignorant buy and parrot what the PHM is selling - propaganda. 🤢🤮 https://lnkd.in/ducs7gQ9

⚠️ In Sudan, women are bearing the brunt of a devastating war. Harassment, rape, forced marriage, abduction, and slavery—these acts underscore the stark gendered impact of the ongoing conflict. A powerful report by Le Monde sheds light on how women’s bodies are being weaponized in this war. 🔗 Read the article: https://lnkd.in/dZXdRhbg This raises a critical question: How can survivors of sexual violence take part in shaping the peace processes that aim to rebuild their war-torn societies? Drawing on lessons from Colombia 🇨🇴 we have recently been exploring ways to include survivors’ voices in peace processes. 🔍 Case Study – Colombia: In negotiations between the Government and FARC, 60 pre-selected victims (60% women) provided formal input into the process. They directly shared their experiences with the conflict parties, as well as their recommendations and priorities for how to move forward. This contributed to the parties agreeing to: 🌱 The creation of a truth commission 🌱 The special jurisdiction for peace to investigate and act on international crimes 🌱 A specialised unit to locate disappeared individuals. The outcome? An inclusive, justice-driven peace process that acknowledged the lived experiences of survivors. As Sudan grapples with these challenges, it’s essential to prioritise survivor inclusion in peace efforts moving forward. #SudanCrisis #WomenInConflict #Peacebuilding #Survivors #TransitionalJustice #16days #EndViolenceAgainstWomen

The recent bombing of an UNRWA school in Al Nuseirat, Gaza, by ‘Israel’ under the pretext of targeting resistance fighters is yet another callous instance of disproportionate and unjust violence against innocent Palestinian civilians. The list of ‘alleged fighters’ published by ‘Israel’ includes three individuals who are still alive and one who has been outside Gaza for years, exposing the falsity of their narrative. In reality, this attack resulted in the deaths of 14 children and numerous innocent adults, not the 17 fighters ‘Israel’ concocted to justify their crime. This massacre of civilians, including women and children, once again demonstrates ‘Isreal’s’ callous disregard for human life and shows NO regard for proportionality, distinction, and precaution. Humanity holds ‘Israel’ and the American administration fully responsible for these ongoing crimes. The repeated targeting of civilians under false pretenses underscores the grave injustice and brutality of these actions. It is for this reason that the UN will rightly add the ‘Israeli’ army to the blacklist of armies that commit crimes against children in war zones. It is shameful that it has taken the deaths of over 14,000 children for the UN to add this belligerent pariah state to the list of shame. This is not a just war; it is a calculated act in a genocidal campaign that must be condemned and stopped.
