Sweaty warehouse, brilliant insights: My East Tamaki R&D Internship In 1962, the author Arthur C. Clarke, formulated his famous three laws. The third of which is his most well-known, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". I feel that Wireless Power Transfer(WPT) is humanity's closest example of this. Projecting power through the air is nothing short of well-engineered magic. Intdevice is a company focused on harnessing this power for the future. The 16th of February marked the end of my time working full-time at Intdevice. I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with such talented engineers. While I am grateful for everybody, I would like to specifically thank Peng Cao, Fletcher Olley, Ron Chiu and of course Daniel Yu. I will miss working under these brilliant engineers all summer, but I am grateful for my return to air-conditioned lecture theatres. This internship would not have been nearly as enjoyable without the other excellent interns: Kyja McCabe, Bahar Khalilnejad and Luke Simpson. This experience would not be possible without the brilliant funding produced by Callaghan Innovation . I strongly believe that without their funding of R&D Experience Grants, the landscape of NZ innovation would not look as exciting as it does today. Intdevice is a reminder to not count out startups, sometimes magic is being made in a sweaty East Tamaki warehouse.

I can't help but feel skeptical about this Creative Chaos internship program based on my experience with them last year. Their team came to my university, SZABIST Islamabad, and spent hours assessing my skills extensively, claiming it was for potential hiring. They took down all my details meticulously while giving a green light. However, after that lengthy evaluation process, I never received any emails, calls or communication from them regarding next steps or opportunities. It comes across as just another marketing gimmick to generate buzz without genuine intent to follow through properly. While internship promotions are understandable, leaving potential talents high and dry after such a rigorous screening reflects poorly on Creative Chaos' commitment to actually nurturing that talent. If they truly valued creativity and growth as they claim, basic professional courtesy demands providing closure or feedback instead of leading candidates on. Unless they demonstrate far more transparency and accountability this time, I have little hope this internship will be any different from their empty overtures last year. Creative Chaos needs to back up their lofty words with consistent actions that respect applicants' time and efforts. PS: You can also find in my past feed that I did posted about them last year when they gave me a green-light along some swags.
The wait is finally over – The Creative Chaos Internship Program 2024 is here! ⭐ Get ready to challenge yourself and learn from the brightest minds in the tech industry! Dive into eight weeks of thrilling competition, and get a chance to transform your creativity into a winning product. 🏆 Swipe to check out the details. ➡ Apply now at: https://lnkd.in/dAcFr-BK Deadline to apply is 14th April, 2024.

The most memorable piece of advice I ever received was: "You don’t need to be the smartest person in the room." It was during the first onboarding day of a summer internship where the CTO was giving a welcoming speech to newcomers. Success in this industry isn't about showing one's intelligence or technical skills at every opportunity = instead, it lies in seeking collaboration and understanding among team members. The best engineers are those who bring people together, focus on the bigger picture and can handle conflicts effectively. Humility is key! when you step back from needing to prove your brilliance you open yourself up to learning from others regardless of their experience level. I still remember this advice until today and every time I find myself in a field where I’m the "junior" I know what I should do.

Caroline Begg (M&T'26) is making her mark in the tech industry through an internship at SafeBook, a fractional professional services platform founded by M&T alum Jack McKnight (M&T'21). As a Computer Science major with concentrations in Finance and Business Analytics at The Wharton School, Caroline’s brought a unique blend of skills to her role as a Product Management Intern. During her internship, Caroline managed the development team, led cross-functional initiatives to enhance user experience, and conducted market research that influenced key product decisions. The independence and trust she earned helped sharpen her leadership skills and gain a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced world of professional services. Thanks to the M&T Intern Fellowship Award, which covered her NYC commute, Caroline could fully dive into this transformative experience. It’s a perfect example of how the M&T program and alumni network opens doors to real-world opportunities at the intersection of tech and business. #PennMT #TechForGood #InternshipSuccess
