We have just two remaining tickets for the highly-anticipated #SydneyFilmFestival screening of #MozartsSister, the latest powerful film from acclaimed director Madeleine Hetherton-Miau and the incredible team Media Stockade. Interest has been huge in this film, which couldn't be more timely given the latest disheartening statistics from the Donne Foundation on gender representation in classical music composition. Despite the increase in the number of talented, diverse and contemporary classical composers, progress in advancing diversity in repertoire has marginally declined since last year. Analysis of 111 orchestras globally found 92.5% of works performed were by men. A staggering 89.3% of these compositions were by white men, with 78.4% of them from deceased white men! We're proud to be working alongside Media Stockade in leading the impact campaign alongside this must-see film. With such sobering new data, this film and its accompanying campaign are urgently needed to drive positive change in this space.

I recently had the opportunity to perform in Berlin, and it was a fantastic experience! 🙃 During the concert, I let the audience select two tones for the tonal center of my Baroque counterpoint improvisation, which resulted in the unusual combination of C# and G. Though it was a challenge, it was an exciting way to push my creativity. Here are some key takeaways from my journey in improvising counterpoint: 1️⃣ There’s always a leading voice—studies show that our brains don’t truly multitask; instead, we become better at switching between tasks. 2️⃣ While historical research is important, I believe in prioritizing expressive performance over adhering strictly to centuries-old practices. 3️⃣ I’ve found that singing along as I play aids my memory, allowing me to recall and develop musical ideas more effectively. Improvisation is a big part of our music and how we compose, without imposing any rules or boundaries, unless these rules are created so we can make more with less or create something based on a story or concept. The concepts we are connected to are very varied, ranging from straightly musical concepts, to theatrical, spiritual or social concepts. Every album we make is like a movie or a theatrical piece - just like an orchestra too.  We are not strictly connected to the concepts start, development and ending of a story.  Maybe changing the position of the development and the ending can result into something continuous, and I mean that in every sense. The ending is not the ending. Stories don’t need an end necessarily, of course. So the same is with music, and an album. We create every type of theory, from guitars and voice techniques to how to use chairs and sounds of the world as instruments, not only ornaments, but as fully functional instruments. We are also painters, poets, photographers, philosophers, and above all we live.  We are explorers of existence, and there is nothing stronger to do then being alive. In this album we approach the subject of how the dialogue when making music happens. then, after the conversation between the ideas and sounds ends, the music becomes it’s own entity. I think about the concept of the Fourth Wall a lot. I have wondered, “is there only one Fourth Wall or are there many different Fourth Walls?” I tend to think the latter. One of the most intriguing of the Fourth Walls I have noticed is the one between what we intend to create in art and what is possible to create outside our imaginations in the world. I think *this* Fourth Wall is not often discussed. But it sure is debated. For example, in music, there is a raging debate right now questioning whether a musician should play a musical piece only the way the composer of it intended it. Is there a way to know this? This first Fourth Wall, so little discussed, I would say, plays a very great part in this question. How did the composer of said musical piece account for this first Fourth Wall? That one between their imagination and the “real world”. Lumispectra Definition: (noun) This vibrant term combines "Luminous," meaning full of light or radiance, with "Spectra," signifying a range of colors or wavelengths. It's used to describe a display or scene where luminosity transforms into a breathtaking array of colors, creating a dazzling visual spectacle. Usage: Picture a concert where the stage is bathed in vibrant lights, seamlessly shifting through a kaleidoscope of colors. It's not just a light show; it's a Lumispectra performance. You might say, "The concert last night wasn't just about the music; it was a Lumispectra performance. The luminous lights transformed into a breathtaking spectrum, creating a visually stunning and unforgettable experience."

How are individual stocks like musical acts? While some acts may have one hit aka the one hit wonders few of them stand the test of time. While artists/bands like the Rolling Stones/Springsteen/U2 have stood the test of time there is XYZ band that ultimately disappeared! What's the point of all this? Just like it is hard for musical acts to survive and thrive the same is true for individual stocks. That's where diversification comes in handy. By investing in a broad index over time the one hit wonders get kicked to the curb. Plus there are now exchange traded funds (ETFs) that create the lens to which their underlying holdings are viewed such has dividend growth or capital appreciation to name a few! Over time holdings will be added or dropped i.e., perform or be cast out based on their lens! Don't forget one of the biggest bands in musical history The Beatles were rejected by all the record labels initially. The record companies couldn't identify musical talent.
