Eduardo Rojas Briales was re-elected as PEFC International Chair during last week’s General Assembly. In his first term as Chair, the PEFC Alliance developed the PEFC 2030 Strategy, and saw seven national standards achieve PEFC endorsement, including the first regional systems and Trees Outside Forests standards. 🌳 “Despite challenging circumstances in the last three years, PEFC’s presence has grown significantly across all continents, and we have gained new members. We have made progress at regional level and explored new approaches like the design of a new member-driven 2030 Strategy, and expanded efforts in development and fundraising,” Eduardo remarked. Looking forward to the coming tenure, he highlighted the need for continued progress and a long-term strategic focus. “A long-term strategic perspective is needed as the challenges and opportunities that forests and forestry face are extremely diverse and complex. Ensuring the global dimension of PEFC is crucial in this sense, as well as consistent support to our members.” Read more 👉 treee.es/ChairElection24 The General Assembly also welcomed Thomas Schenker to the PEFC International Board. Dradjad Wibowo, Fatimah Mohammad, and Sara El Kadri were re-elected as Board members.

It's the last day of the 2024 COFI Convention! If you haven't already, be sure to stop by our Silvacom FMS booth and discover how our application can take your forest management to the next level 🌲 #ForestManagement #ForestryInnovation
Wrapping up the day here at COFI with a panel facilitating conversation with First Nations and Industry, truly a panel full of heavy hitters. When asked about their hopes and dreams for the industry, the sentiment was resounding, forestry all started here, and through building partnerships and meaningful revenue sharing it will continue thrive. There is a sense of transition, within the industry and not away from it because 1+1 truly can equal 5 when it comes to reconciliation and prosperity sprung from this. Investing time and energy into knowing your partners, getting into one room, with one goal and working towards it with alignment on mutual benefit; economic, cultural, and environmental benefit, all while being good stewards and doing it “the right way with respect for one another”. This is the future. BC Council of Forest Industries, thanks for pulling this together and thanks to the panel for their insight and time. Thanks to Silvacom for enabling me to be here.

🌲🌿 Interesting insights from the 2024 COFI Convention. 🌲🌿 It seems as though investors are stepping back from British Columbia's forestry sector amidst rising uncertainties. With concerns over wood fibre shortage and regulatory ambiguity, the industry is at a critical juncture. COFI President Linda Coady emphasizes the urgent need for stability to bolster investment and sustain the workforce. Minister Bruce Ralston remains optimistic about the future, highlighting potential growth in the upcoming fiscal year. The recent push for breakthrough agreements, like the 'Namgis First Nation deal, showcases a path towards collaboration and economic progress. Industry experts stress the importance of addressing challenges like low fibre supply and policy changes to attract capital. Kimberly Burns emphasizes the overwhelming nature of policies in the forest sector, highlighting the significance of political certainty and sustainability for attracting private equity. One thing is certain, navigating these challenges will be difficult, require many changes, and hopefully will pave the way for a more resilient forestry sector in British Columbia. 🌟💼 #COFIConvention #ForestryIndustry #InvestmentOpportunities #SustainabilityMatters #CollaborationIsKey link to article here: https://lnkd.in/g_tGpPQj
